Welcome to our Canvas 11 forum. I've used every version of Canvas since 3.5. I'll be happy to help you get the best of of Canvas 11!

I use Canvas DAILY and love it. I've never used anything so easy and fast, and I have the OTHER suites.

    Canvas rocks!

thank you very much for the offer. I have used Canvas for a while (3 years), but I am always baffled by one problem.

I do a lot of microsoft excel plot, then I copy and paste the plot to Canvas for layout. In Canvas, I often need to adjust the size of the excel plot. Consequently, the same size 10 font from the original excel plot is much smaller or bigger than newly entered text in Canvas. Do you have any such experience? Do you have a tip to solve the problem?

    Thanks.

not sure. Can you provide more info?

Canvas version? Excel version? A screen shot of what you're trying to do? Also, how are pasting into Canvas?

You could copy from Excel and "Paste Special" as a bitmap.

OR if you want better resolution you could save your Excel file as a PDF (Excel 2007 supports this) then open the Excel PDF in Canvas. Your Chart would be high res and you can edit the text.

I am having trouble printing my Canvas documents.  When I try to print nothing happens. When I look at whats happening with the printer it shows   "spooling"  "printing" and then "deleting printing"

I have found that if I copy the document and then paste it into a new Canvas document it will print normally.   Can you help?

Hmmm. I'm not sure. I can forward your problem to tech support but I'd need some additional info like:

Printer driver? Windows version? All files or just a few? How many layers? Also, is this a file you could upload so I could test?

One thought: I have, on rare occasion, had a file that behaved similarly. I copied and pasted into a new Canvas document and that procedure solved my problem as well. I read on a forum a while back that works if there's something  corrupt in the file. I'm pretty sure you'll end up will all objects on one layer though.

Another thought. I ALWAYS save a Canvas file as a PDF then print it with Adobe reader (or Preview Mac). I find this procedure works great and lets me view the output before I print it anyway.

    Maybe give that a try?

Canvas has had printing problems going back many years. Use the workarounds (especially printing from a PDF version) when necessary. It's pretty much all you can do if the real problem is not fixed.

Thanks,  My printer driver is HP06300T.GPD    9.18.2006

Windows Vista Home Premium      All Canvas files are behaving this way.    This problem started when I moved this computer from home to my office.

Hello Mrwinslow...... My name is Ron, and I've been checking this forum from time to time, but due to the lack of feedback from ACD, it has gotten less and less. It is nice to see a new moderator here.  Do you represent ACD as an associate or just purely a volunteer? I also use canvas on a daily basis, and have yet to use it's full potential as there is so much to it. Are you able to provide any kind of feed back as to the future of this product, (see my post for last FEB) or is this just a subject no longer worth pursuing?

At an eailer time I had asked Connie if ACD could put back into ver 11 the ability to play animated gifs, like ver 10 use to do. Can you past this along as a feature request, or I guess we could call it a re-feature.  I do enjoy seeing the tips from the eariler posts, at times it makes me feel as if I've barely scratched the surface of what Canvas can do. I guess that's the reason I'm always curious as to what is coming next.

    Hi

I am currently using Canvas 11 and I would like to know is there a format/extension I can use to import a drawing from Solid Works and be able to edit/modify the drawing?

    Thanks

    Corbin

    Hi Ron,

The feature request was already submitted, but I do not know when it will be reintroduced. It definitely helps if more users request.

At the meantime, I think Arnost has given very good workaround to the same question you asked at wizaerd:

    Hi....

I have a trail version of Canvas 11.

I have made 2 illustrations of a pair of pants. I might have saved them the wrong way, because I can work with the to drawing now.

Is there anything I can do? I'm so lost!

    //Camilla

Sorry for the gramma, I'm not that good in english. =)

Apparently you did not save your work as a native Canvas file (.cvx). The .jpg file you posted is now Bit-map format rather than the Canvas vector drawing you started with and that is why you can no longer edit it. (Well you CAN edit it but on a pixel by pixel basis, not by dragging the end points of lines around as you did when you created your file.)

The most feasible way back would be to import your jpg file into Canvas and use it as a background for tracing with one of the curve tools, probably the same tools you used to create the orginal drawing.  Use a contrasting color ink (red) so you can keep track of where you have been. Once you have done the tracing, you can delete the jpg template from your workspace and change the red ink back to black. Then save the file as a Canvas CVX file.  If you need a bit-map for your final format you can do a Save As another file format AFTER you have saved the CVX. The CVX will be the file to go back to for further editing.

Does Canvas create a backup of the file we work on?  Even if the job isn't saved as .cvx (but in cvx format)?

That would then allow a restart from where Camilla left off - p'haps!

    Just a thought- longshot.

Canvas CAN create a backup file (.bak) each time you save, but only if that option has been chosen in the Configuration Center. Fresh out of the box, backups are not the default, and Camilla indicated she was using a trial copy so may not yet have discovered some of the optional features which can be enabled.
