View mode selection tool not working

I'm new to ACDSee, so forgive me if I've completely misunderstood this option. What I'm trying to do in View mode is make a quick selection of a portion of an image, click somewhere and then see that selection appear on the screen, so that I can get a quick 'n' dirty idea of a crop without actually cropping.

In Beta 2 View mode I select part of an image, right click, click Zoom To and most times nothing happens. Occasionally there might be a small zoom in, but nowhere near to the extent that I selected. I can, however, save the selection, reopen that saved image and see only what I originally selected. But I presume this isn't what was intended with this tool.

    I hope that makes sense!

    Good to see you here!

I don't tend to use that functionality, although it seems convenient when you describe it, so I just tried.  Does seem a bit confusing, but I'm not sure if it's correct or not.  What seems to be the case is that if you have the select tool active, you select a region, and the mouse icon changes to the magnifying glass.  Then you can simply click in the region and it zooms there.  Even if you normally have the scroll tool active (as I do), if you are viewing an image at a size that fits on the screen - so there is nothing to scroll - it seems you can still make selections.  Although sometimes it take two clicks to zoom form there - one to change the mouse cursor to the magnifying glass, another to zoom?

Thanks, Marc. Yes, it's that "sometimes" that bothers me. It doesn't seem to be a very well thought-out feature. Hope they fix it, because it's handy.
