The new update for Pro 2.5 is now available here.

This update contains the following fixes:
    • When converting a database from previous versions the system now identifies only ACDSee files requiring embedding.
    • Users can now search in Embed Pending section for files that need embed information and can view these files.
    • Users can now choose which files they want to embed metadata information into.
    • After Embed process completed, user can now view errors and/or feedback on embedded files
    • Retrieving Files dialog box now allows other applications to run on top of it
    • Embed dialog now displays number of files selected and allows user to choose writing to Sidecar files to be turned off
    • Embedding dialog now displays progress list with complete file name and file number
    • When XMP Embed feature encounters a corrupt file it will no longer disable the program
    • Skip feature in Copy To function now operates correctly, skipping only duplicate files.
    • Tagged image maintains tagged status after editing and resaving file.

OK the update took 50 seconds to download and about the same time to install.  The biggest change I see is now the D700 RAW files are viewable.

I also have the same problem. To fix it, I reinstalled first install package of ACDsee Pro 2.5 (Build 332), and then applied update patch of build 358. It works fine. "Acdsee Pro 2.5.msi" is now located at "C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Downloaded Installations\{85C067DA-AEF2-4634-9256-3E781F465EE7}\ on my XP SP3 (Japanese).

If the MSI file is not there (or somewhere) and you don't have ACDSee Pro 2.5 Build 332 package, what to do?? I don't know, sorry.

Thanks for the information. I still wonder what happened to that file that obviously have disappeared from my disk. What happened to your settings, i.e. customization of ACDSee? Did you have to redo all your settings?

I see no mention of any major bug fixes.  Does ACDSystems deny all the problems people have been having with simply cataloging their files?  Has ACDSee been taken over by Microsoft? (gotta love the add a few features but don't fix the bugs mentality to keep the masses "happy")

On a side note, have you ever found a product that "just works"?  One that simply does what it is supposed to do, and does it well? Well, ACDsee isn't it... obviously...

With hesitation I finally broke down and installed LightRoom 2.2.  Lacks some features, and may not be as user friendly in some aspects ... BUT IT WORKS!!

ACDsee is much like MSWindows... it looks pretty and sounds good on paper but you'll spend your whole life babysitting the software instead of actually getting your work done.

Second best part, I can install on my laptop. Yes two installs/ONE license -- Adobe is a business minded company. ACDSystems?  I really don't know who they are attempting to cater to. Anyway, I can take my laptop to a shoot, catalog and tag all my images.  Then I can come home and import the images and related data to the main server using a simple and intuitive set of steps. Again, it "just works".

I cannot express how painful ACDsee has become. LightRoom is such a relief. I think I feel my blood pressure dropping already! :-)

Thought I'd post some good news- at least for me.  The following is my post to another section.

    Jeff

"Well... I am impressed, I bounced around trying a number of combined edits and didn't get the crashes I almost expected.  The menu exit anomolies still exist with some of the effects but the system appears stable.  I'll play around some more but it looks like 2.5 is ready to be taken seriously."

+1. update to build 358 (german) installed smooth and fast; no messing up of database, no loss of settings or pre-saved batch processes. after checking presets and batch-sets i did a complete maintenance of database; and everything worked fine (i remember older builds of 2.x not even started on my dell after database compress and necessary restart) i guess this is good news.

I'm not sure which specific problems you are referring to, but I know there *were* some basic stability issues fixed in this patch.  I suspect they weren't listed in the release notes because there may not have been a *specific* set of symptoms that they could say were fixed.  That is, the fixes should lead to fewer crashes, to be sure, but I think most of these crashes were in the the hard to reproduce category.  So there may not be a single description of the steps that used to lead to a crahs that don't now.  and hence, nothing specific to list in the release notes.

At least, that's my (limited) understanding, fleshed out with a little reasoning and reading between the lines.

Second best part, I can install on my laptop. Yes two installs/ONE license -- Adobe is a business minded company. ACDSystems?  I really don't know who they are attempting to cater to.

ACDSee has been allowing two installs with one license for as longer than Lightroom has been a product.

But in any case, Lightroom is indeed a fine product.  It does a lot of the same things as ACDSee, some of them maybe better, some of them maybe not as well.  Some like the interface better, some not as well.  If it works for you, great!

    Hi,

I am happy about the Eos 50d and canon G10 support. However, the  Autoslide show function and Auto slide show configuration function don't seem to work. When I selesct a dozen or so  Jpegs and select either of theese choices in the Tools menu, I get an "ACDSee has encountered a system error and will close now" message. I have to click OK  three or four times before the software effectively closes. I tried to reinstall the update but it did not solve the problem. Any suggestions ?

    Thanks,

    Same shit, different name...

I opened a RAW (Sony A900) and tryed to make some changes in the Light EQ-panel and after three or four files, it crasched as before. Tryed again and this time it crasched as soon as I entered the Light EQ-panel :)

Next time I could edit about 10 files, hit Done and the program did what it's supposed to do. Went for another set of files and the program crasched...

I would suggest for ACDSee to release 3.0 Pro, charge a lot of $ for it and make a run for it :)

I would like to switch to Lightroom, but it sucks, so I struggle on with ACDSee, but I won't pay for the next versions.

    Thanks,

Glad the RAW update is helping Canon users.

As far as the Auto Slide show, I can run this with at least 100-200 JPG images, with no crash. Even with RAW files. The settings work exactly the way they are supposed to do. So it must be something in your configuration that is upsetting ACDSee.

What settings do you have for the slide show?

     mantra,

So far only three users in this thread are having a problem, out of probably many hundreds/thousands, who have downloaded and installed the update, So it can be installed. The update has to find the installed version,in the default installation path.

So if you have a different path, this might be the cause of your problem?

Remember, this is an update, not the full version of the program, and as Marc has said, you have a license to install ACDSee on two computers, such as a Desktop, and Laptop, or two laptops.
