unable to disable pan lock

Hi guys, I've just been working on this.  Here's how it will work in the next release:

The default behavior is the same as it is in the 2.5 release.  The pan position is preserved going from one image to the next, so if you pan to the bottom left corner of one image and flip to the next image, it will be showing the bottom left corner of the next image.  This allows you to easily flip back and forth between two images and compare the same pixels.

The pan lock is now back.  If you want to have each image appear panned to the top left corner, just open one image, scroll to the top left and turn on the pan lock.  From now on your images will all show up panned to the top left corner.

I've also refined the way the pan lock works, which should make things better for you guys.  If you have your zoom mode set to "actual size" and lock the pan position to the top left corner, you can open an image and pan around, zoom in and out, etc, then flip to the next image and you'll be back to a 100% view of the top left corner of the next image.  The pan lock now respects the zoom mode (actual size, fit width, etc.), which it didn't in Pro 2.

I think the new system can do pretty much everything you could want.  Pro 2/ACDSee 10 wasn't perfect, Pro 2.5/ACDSee 2009 did some stuff better but took away some functionality, and the next update will have the best of both versions.

This will also work for your workflow Ghost Rider, you can set the zoom mode to Fit Width, scroll to the top and turn on the pan lock.  Now all your images will show up scrolled to the top, hopefully reducing the amount of moaning around the office.

    Tony.

    Thats good to hear, Tony.
So when can we expect this "next release" to come out?

It's just been released.  You can get it at: http://www.acdsee.com/support/updates

Basically, we made the change because we couldn't see a reason why you would want the pan position reset to the top left corner every time you viewed a new image, and we felt that we were simplifying the interface by removing a useless option.

    OMG!! This is brilliant!!

All these years I didn't know there was such a thing as Pan Lock!!

(As you suggest, I'm one of those people who can't stand having their images always top left when viewing 100%. )

Yesterday, I bit the bullet and upgraded to 2.5 from 2.0, and did the hour+ reconfig from a clean install. (I've been dreading this since 2.5 first came out.) But it actually turned out to be a really good thing, because in remaking my custom toolbars, I found some new better tool options and got rid of old options I don't use. Another boost to my workflow performance.

And now, after reading this thread, I discover that ACDSee has Pan Lock!!!! And also keeps whatever location I set for succesive images!!

Whoo Hoo!! This is fantastic!!! Been wanting this for many years.

    :-)

Good job Tony, works as it should...except that you need to reactivate and set position of the Pan lock every time you restart Acdsee, but it still better than nothing.

Sadly, I am still having problems with the pan lock.

Like was already said above, it doesn't remember the setting and has to be set each time Acdsee starts.

Also, if you set the pan lock to top left, scroll down the picture (with the down arrow), then zoom (with the "+" key), it will jump to the top left location and zoom there instead. If you do this a 2nd time in the same picture, it will work as it should by zooming at the location you scrolled to. If you load a new picture then it will jump again when you to try to scroll/zoom the 1st time.

    What a mess!

thanks for your hard work tony. i was kinda stuck in this predicament of not panning back to the top on the next image (i use this software mainly for comics). it was very frustrating at first, but all you guys helped me alot here. though i have to keep turning this pan lock on each restart, like what neojam said "it's better than nothing"

just hoping you add a setting where the software remembers the pan lock setting so that one will not keep turning it on each restart.

I just put remembering the pan lock settings between sessions on our list of things to do.  Hopefully we'll be able to get it done.
