I"ve been using ACDSee for about 5 years now.. at 8.1. My whole family is now using the photos but I don't have a way right now to let them all share the database. I've placed the photos on a server in my home so they can all access. Of late my database ~1G in size hasn't been reliable and takes forever to load. So, seems like time to upgrade. I'm in the enthusiest category.. they are all beginers. The thought of buying 5 licenses of Pro so my family can use the database isn't appealing. Can ACDSee operate in a mixed environment where I run Pro2.5 , and I purchase 2009 for the rest of them? I've seen posts where you can "share" the database as long as you are careful about editing the same file.

You cannot share a database with Pro 2.5 and 2009.

can I integrate any of the tagging to the pictures so that multiple applications can access the tags from either 2009 or 2.5/3.0? This would seem to at least let me search on tagging?
Thanks for your thoughts on this.

With Pro, you can use Batch Set Information to copy all your db info to IPTC fields of your choice, and then any IPTC-aware application (including, of course other copies of ACDSee) can see your tags. That's a regualr part of my workflow - as soon as I'm done with my tagging, I batch copy it to IPTC (using a template I previously created for the purpose).
