What kind of file are you using (eg, JPEG, TIFF, a camera-specific RAW), what mode are you in (I'm assuming Develop?), and what goes wrong when you try to select Save As or Export?

Just an aside to the Save button question. I find it confusing to have Save As (and more) hidden behind Save. I have learned to live with it but it is counter to most designs. It is quite different from the other two buttons beside it. Perhaps the three little dots: Save... would indicate that the button doesn't really save at all. DaveX

Hi Thanks for answering . I am in develope . the files are from a canon 5D mark 2 and in raw format. I choose save as or export then as the box comes on saying writing with the file name it....it just dissapears and nothing is saved ....now this is also happening with my version 2.5 of ACDSee...its also very very slow . The original files from the canon are around 125 meg but are reduced to 25 meg I think for proccessing. They work fine in CS4 but I do not like that program its far more difficult to use and have always prefared to use ACDSee 2.5 until this beta release came along .

Is it possible it is saving to a different folder? The currently selected folder should be displayed form the Save As dialog. Also, is it possible you have a filter applied that is suppressing the display of the image?
Also, I'd like to make sure people realize that saving from Develop mode (whether save, save as, or export) should really not be a common thing to be doing. The whole point of non-destructive editing is that edits are automatically saved, without destroying your original data. If you want to create a second copy of the image, than can be done more efficiently via batch operations after you've finished processing your files. Not that it's *wrong* to use the Save button; I just want to make sure people realize it's really not how the tool was designed to be used in normal circumstances.

Hi, I know nothing about filters blocking the image view. however twice now it has saved and said image saved ..usually it says preparing image about 4 times the line runs across then writing image again about 4 times ...then just stops no message saying image saved ...then ACDSee has a system error and will close ...send error report ...
I was not aware of the method you describe,, as a user of version 2.5 I have always used this method to save as jpeg once edited and keep the original.
I have 1 gig of ram and plenty of hard disk space so I cannot understand whats happening and if they are being saved elsewhere I cannot find them. Thanks for the help by the way ...kent

Ah, if it crashes, then indeed I'm not surprised nothing was saved. You hadn't mentioned that part before!
Also, what i described about not normally needing to "Save" is not new to 3.0. It wasn't necessary in 2.5 either, for RAW files. Simply hit Done from the RAW processing and your changes are saved automatically. Your RAW data is not affected - this is RAW we are talking about - but the settings you used are saved automatically. So the next time you view the file, it will *appear* as you last edited it, because ACDSee keeps remembering the settings you used. You could then go back to RAW processing for that image later - even years later - and find all your sliders right where you left them, ready to be tweaked further, reset, or otherwise picked up where you left off as if you had never left.
Of course, you might decide you want JPEG copies of your RAw images, for posting to the web and so forth. But it's not very efficient to generate those one at a time from RAW Processing (2.5) or Develop mode (3.0) - it is far more efficient to simply do all your processing first, never stopping to save or convert anything, then when you are done and back in the browser (Manage mode in 3.0) select the images you want to create JPEG conversions of and run Batch Convert File Format or bach Processor (2.5) / Batch Edit (3.0) to create your conversions.

Well, I certainly can't fix the crash, but I can ask what you are doing when it crashes, and if there is any way to make it reproducible. That would help the folks at ACD immensely in trying to fix it.

Hi , I downloaded the new release and all of a sudden my problems have gone ....
as for the crashes they always happened in the develope mode and using the detail feature ..
The new release is superior and up to now I have had no problems at all . I find the batch commands perfect and very quick and usefull .
thanks
