    Dear all,

I have been using the AcdSee Pro 2.0 since it came out. Yesterday I have downloaded and upgraded o ACDSEE 2.5.

The upgrade was successful and all went well except the program will not launch.

When I click on the ACDSeePro25.exe I get the following error message:

    C:\Program Files\Acdsystems\acdseepro\2.5\acdseepro25.exe
The Application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.

When I look at the event viewer, I get the following error:

    UPDATE:

    Uninstall ACDSEE

Delete all remaining ACDSEE Folders in Program Files, Users\Appdata locations.

    Reinstall ACDSEE 2.5.

    All worked fine for me.

    Cheers

    Mert

  • As a matter of interest do you run any other ACDSee apps, and more importantly are they working?

Side by side (SxS) is an operating system feature that allows different and potentially incompatible versions of the same application library (.dll file) to coexist on the same machine. The application library must provide relevant information to allow it to participate in the SxS schema; it sounds like an existing or new .dll has invalid SxS data.

Presumably ACD does share common libraries among its various products, if not why is there ACDSee stuff in the "Program Files/Common Files" directory. To what extent these libraries use SxS I'm not sure. It looks like some of these libraries were updated in 2.5 as they have August 2008 build dates.
