TEXT ALIGNMENT

How do I change the vertical alignment of individual text? A baseline shift on individual text is what I'm after but can't nut it out.
I can do it in Corel so assume there is a way to do it here. I got around it by placing 2 different words with the first word set to the larger text size and both aligned horizontally as required using Align. Thats a bit cumbersome.
    regards Richard

    Hello Richard,

If you select the text object and look in the Properties bar, you'll notice there are 2 sets of alignment options. The first set is horizontal and the second is vertical. You may have to click the arrow to scroll the commands in the bar.

Suzanne I cant get any vertical movement from anything I see on the Property Bar. I checked the Canvas manual (chapter 30) and I can't see how it can be done. Must be missing something obvious?

Superscript and Subscript in the type palette (ctrl-t) makes a baseline shift.

I tried this and whilst it gives the desired effect its not really the option I was looking for.

Perhaps if you show an example, we could tell you how it's done.

I was trying to work out how to place/ paste a screen shot but couldn't nut it out.
Imagine the first letter as a capital size 24. Following letters of word are size 16. I want the first letter aligned vertically along the line of the top of the remaining text. In other words all the letters are aligned vertically along the top of the font. Thats a bit of a crude way of describing thisngs. I realise it depends upon what letters are used etc. Also not exactly as I want it but the principals the same.
I find it so easy to do in Corel Draw and yet its beyond me here. Anyone familiar with CD - TEXT/Format Text/ Character Shift - x or y.
Suzanne you mentioned in earlier posting the 'select the text object and look in the Properties bar, you'll notice there are 2 sets of alignment options' - could you post a screen shot as I cant see any way on the PROPERTY BAR where that can be done.
    regards Richard

    Hello Richard,

I believe you're looking for the Drop Cap control. It's located on the Indent tab of the Type palette.

Thanks Suzanne - yes I hadn't found that either.
Thanks too Jan - I revisited the super/subscript and played around with both and now find it indeed does what I want.
    Help much appreciated, regards Richard
