Suddenly ACDSee Pro 2.5.363 won't start in Vista 64-bit

    Hello,

I really like ACDSee Pro 2.5, but I need help, because my ACDSee won't start anymore.

I normally used it on my Vista 64 without any problems, before one week I installed Service Pack 2 for my Vista 64 and everything was ok. Yesterday I needed to work in my ACDSee Pro and after clicking on shortcut/launching .exe file/opening picture via ACDSee...nothing happens. It appears in task manager for a while (0.5s) and then it disappears without any error message.

I tried to delete catalog files/clean registry settings and nothing happens. So I uninstalled ACDSee Pro, deleted all folders/registry entries and installed it again. Hurray I said, ACDSee is working.... until today:( It happened again, ACDSee Pro won't start again and I don't know what to do, because I don't have so much time for reinstalling it again.

I think, that this problem can cause Service Pack 2, because with Service Pack 1 it was alway ok and this never happened.

    Can anyone please help?

Thanks a lot for any help!!

I seem to have the same problem.  All of a sudden ACDSee Pro refuses to run on my 64 bit Vista machine with a Windows message saying "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly".

I have uninstalled all traces of the program (that I could find) as well as running the registry cleaner. All to no avail.

I seemed to have solved it!

After uninstalling and deleting the saved application data files I ran REGEDIT (Registry Editor) and deleted all references to ACDSee. After installing once again, all seems to be ok.

Remember, before you run regedit create a Restore point in case there is a problem.

I did the same, it worked for a few days and then it could not start again...

    Hi,

I just had the same problem this morning. Un-installing and re-installing did not help. Even if cleaning the registry is a solution, going into registries do delete all references to ACDSee is not a common practice for a common software user.

I tryed the REGEDIT but it did not help. Can someone say what needs to be cleaned/deleted?

The ACDSee-crew really has to look at this because this is getting annoying for their reputation.

    Regards,

    Riho.

I had the same problem since mid-August as well and was unable to use the photo manager. I really want to know the answer to this problem. I am using Window Vista  as well. Since cleaning register, re-install, etc. did not help as other users said, I am not going to do the same. Can the Tech support of ACDSee Pro tell us what's wrong?

Folks, this is just a wild guess, but I had very simlar symptoms in the past which turned out to have been caused by a totally corrupted database.  The recovery solution was to rename the current database folder so it could not be found during startup. This causes ACDSee to start over with a new database.

This may or may not solve your problems, but its easy to try and easy to undo.  The quick way to find your exact database folder location is do a search on the file name Thumb1.fpt.

Hope this helps and good luck, Bill

    p.s.  I'm running four Acdsee Versions on Vista x64 SP2 including V9, PM2009, Pro 2.5 and Pro 3.0 Beta.......no problems.

I thought I had solved this problem (by uninstalling, running regedit and deleting all references to ACDSee, and reinstalling) but it's back again!!! Very annoying and makes me lose faith in this product. I see others are posting the same problem and the moderators think they are dealing with a one-time issue and don't seem to realize this is a common problem. I am running 64bit Vista Premium.

    Hi,

The ACDSee Community is a Peer to peer network. To contact Tech Support, you need to submit a support ticket. Once you have an answer, feel free to share it with you fellow members.

    Hello from Switzerland,

it feels good, not to be alone with a significant problem ...

I do know how to run regedit (not for the faint-hearted) and cleaned every position to ACDSee - to no avail; I contacted Support. They were very helpful and even offered a programme to get rid of the database altogether (not such a good deal if you have a lot of data in it, I did not). But they could not help either. The problem as described by you folks persistently remains. No help from Support then.

My Vista is a normal one, no frills, nothing. My ACDSee Pro 2.5 decided to quit one day. I re-installed it several times. No go. On that machine (my image processing computer!) there is no internet, no network - just plain single work station type. And yet, the same. ACDSee only runs in Pro 2.0 there. My - other - clogged XP machine runs the latest update of Pro 2.5 without any problems .... For whatever that is worth.

Sorry for not being able to offer a solution either, but the problem is not in the Vista registry and Support does not have a solution!

    Arthur
