Speed of Pro 3 compated to Beta versions?

    Hi All,

I, like many of you I'm sure, was signed up as a Beta user of Pro 3.  I found the speed of Beta 1 very good, with fast updating of non-destructive developing, and was extremely impressed with the software.

Upon installing Beta 2, I frequently had problems with the software crashing when swapping between modes such as from Edit to Develop, and the software would run very very slowly when swapping tabs or updating non-destructive previews.

Did anyone find similar degradation between Beta 1 and Beta 2, and is anyone able to say whether they're had any of these problems with the final release? I'm a HUGE fan of the software and would love to have the confidence to buy it, but Beta 2 kind of put me off.

    Thanks

    Scott

I fine the final release quite fast (build 355)

    I think it is built for Dual/Quad core CPUs..of which I have a AMD X2 64 dual core 2.1ghz on a Vista 32 OS with 2gig 800mhz DDR RAM.

Most of the tools update the image in near real-time, as the sliders are moved.

Final product is in my experience much faster than the betas. I have single core processor (Athlon 3000+) though, so I can't comment on multi core processors. You can try for yourself in trial version.

I find switching tabs and most other operations also faster in the product version than the betas.  Unfortunately, while the product versions might be a bit faster than beta 2 at generating the Developed previews after modifying an image, it still makes you wait for it to do so before moving on to the next image.  So if you've made changes to an image in Develop mode and wish to move on to another image, you have to wait for ACDSee finish "Applying changes" before it loads the next image.  This is practically instant with JPEG's, and fast enough with sufficiently small RAW files.  But the bigger the image, the longer it takes, and images from my 10MP camera can take 5 seconds or more.  Just long enough to be a bit frustrating, although it also encourages me to get things "right" before moving on, rather than flitting about as randomly as I used to.  Everyone has their list of pet peeves with any application, this is mine with Pro 3.
