I am looking for a new photo manager.  Currently I take photos of patients using a canon 40D, I download them through Canon zoom browzer onto my server and have them seperated by the date the picture was taken on.  I then view them through microsoft photo editor, because zoom browser is not as quick and convienent.  I will then open up the files with the date the pictures were taken on and sort them into the specific patients name. ie, if on 4/4/09 i took pictures of 3 different patients, i would sort them into 3 folders with the specific patients name!

I then can view all the pictures I have taken on a specific patient and view them in the chronological order of the procedures.

My problem with photo editor is the created date is always a date that is later than the modified date. ie created date 2/1/2009, modified date 2/1/2008. and within the specific patient folder the pictues are not in chronological order of date picture taken on.

My question is can ACDSEE manager provide me a quick and easy way to view my patient photos in chronologocal order of the date the picture was taken on, and since i currently have over 20,000 pictures on my server, will ACDsee find those photos and automatically capture them into the software for easy viewing as thumbnails??/

You, understandably, have only given us a quick overview of your workflow but ACD could provide you with the following:

    1.  Import your images into folders by date

    2.  Retain in those folders, images sorted by Date Time Original i.e. NOT dependent upon whether or not image modified.

    3.  Allow you to use, say, keywords (iptc) as a field populated solely with patients' names which can be dome as part of the import process or later as your workflow demands.

    4.  This then permits viewing of images by:

    a.  dates either through calendar views, your folders or date ranges

    b.  patient either globally or grouped within the 'date folders'

i currently have over 20,000 pictures on my server, will ACDsee find those photos and automatically capture them into the software for easy viewing as thumbnails??/

Whatever 'filing system' (windows folder structure) you currently use will be faithfully replicated by ACD.  The hard part would be the labour involved in keywording all those old images that you currently place in named sub-folders under the date folder.

If, however, you let us have an example of the exact wording of the sub-folders, there should be shortcuts to this also.  We don't need the real names of course!

Is there a way I can do a rial version of ACDSEE first before purchasing, or is there a site where i can at least view the format?

If you go to ACDSee's home page, and click on the product you wish to trial, you should find a link for a 30day trial download.
