Will the Beta work with Snow Leopard?

    Hi Dan,

While the Beta will install with 10.6, the system requirements are only for 10.5 . That being said, we're very interested to hear how you find it or if you run into any challenges.

I just installed "Snow Leopard" and have found my beta version of ACDSee for Mac doesn't run. If I look at the icon on the dock, it says "application not responding".

I'm just reading between the lines here.  Your development team has not even tested the beta on the new operating system.  Correct me if I am wrong.

This is one of several apps that do not run with Snow Leopard. Some seem to run Ok if reinstalled but this does not work for ACDSee. Please fix ASAP.

Ditto on the Snow Leopard problem.  It will not run.  I get the "spinning beach ball" and, in fact had to force it to quit before shutting down the system.

Will we be notified when a version that is compatible with 10.6?

A bit bummed that I did not read these posts about 1 hour ago.  Just installed Snow Leopard and am getting the same problems.  Tried the download and reinstall route without success.  I hope this gets resolved ASAP, as I am in the middle of lecture projects, and have been using ACDSee heavily.  I am considering having to go back to a restore with the older operating system on it until this is resolved.  Please have the developers respond, and let us know how long before this is fixed.

I am a bit surprised that there are no responses from Melanie since the 27th or the developers.  What's up with that.  I would think that the developers and team would be aware that the big announcement from Mac with the release date of Friday the 28th might cause some issues with the beta version, and if so be on top of it, send out an email warning if necessary.  That's what BETA is all about.  There are posts on the "bugs" blog as well.

I sympathize, I really do, and I have to go through thousands of photos from 4 sessions right now, so I know the pain you're in. But then again, what BETA is _truly_ all about is: this thing isn't stable yet and can crash in your hands anytime, so do NOT use it for mission-critical tasks. The ACDSee team is very honest and straightforward about it, so I think it's only my / our bad to overlook that warning, not the other way around.

ACDSee people, keep up on the good work!

I can't wait for the final version :-)

I installed Snow Leopard yesterday. Same problem as everyone else. No mission critical tasks, but I hope it gets fixed very soon.

Don't worry I do not use it for mission critical tasks.   I have about every browser known to Mac.  It's just that browsing hundreds of thumbnails, even in the Beta, has been more enjoyable than any of the other browsers out there.  I still have to edit the image in another program like Aperture, Elements, Lightroom, CS3, etc.

Dont' worry I am one of ACDSee's  biggest fans since PC version 3.0.  And push their product HEAVILY in my lectures.  I switced to Mac only when I heard the announcement of their Mac version in Beta.  I Still do most of my browsing and editing with ACDSee Pro 2.5 or Beta Pro 3 and then send the images over to my Mac for Keynote. My wife won't even do any photo work on her Mac until they are completely done with the Beta.  She'll only work on her PC with Pro 2.5 til then.

Because of how good they are I was just suprised that the team hadn't caught this problem the day of the release.  I am sure that we will hear something on Monday regarding this. I am really more mad at myself for being too anxioius to check out Snow Leopard.  I could have waited a couple of weeks with no problems.

    Go team Go

I am having the same issue after installing Snow Leopard!!

Does anyone know, or has anyone heard from the ACDsee development team about a fix for this issue?  Perhaps a new version of the Beta??

I truly hate using iPhoto, and would love to get my ACDsee working again...

You are wrong. The team has tested it and continues to work this. That is why we're asking to hear what's happening for you. Better to ask than "read between the lines."

not being a rocket scientist as yet it would still appear to me that the beta is not presently compatible with Snow Leopard(well Duh) however boys and girls I'm sure the software geniuses are hot after fixing the problems.....be patient, be patient, all will turn out well.

Same for me. Beta 1.1 doesn't work after upgrading to Snow Leopard.

I get the "Welcome" screen with this message: "Connect to internet and restart...."

If I close the Welcome screen, the app appears but no local drives are available.

The app does see my external drive but crashes after I view a picture and this crash causes me to restart my iMac.

Oh well, it was sort of good while it lasted. Here's hoping for a new beta very soon that works with 10.6 and has some key missing features like sort.

with respect this is inexplicable. a simple look at the calendar makes clear that to the time acdsee pro for mac will be out 10.6 will be the current os. how can any developer restrict his app to 10.5 then?
there have been versions of 10.6 for developers for quite a long time. maybe even before pro for mac dev. has started.

frankly the whole project so far seems a bit planless. it leaves the impression the mac version ain't a high priority ...

Well thought I would give 1.1 a try on 10.6

it installs, but does not come up

there are other applications that are compiled to only run with a specific version os os/x, but I would have thought that such a product would be forward thinking enough to work with the current release.

But even if it was hard coded, or needed a tweek, I would think that by now that fix would have been released, as it stands no one who buys a new mac could test the software

'Tis a sad day, but into the Trash goes the Beta. Guess I will use the Picasa Beta for quick browsing or flip on the VM and use the Winders version.
