Slide show - some ideas for you to make it far better

The slide show has some great features, but it could quite easily be so much better. It seems like this part of the system hasn't had the attention it deserves. It has some annoyances that make it pretty much unusable for more than say 60 photos. Here are my suggestions.

Issue 1. Can't easily jump around. Example. Start a slideshow of 250 pictures. Try to jump forward to around 200 pictures from the start. The only way I can see to do this is to click on the Jump button at the top, giving a list of filenames. Even on my quite large screen I only see about 60 listed. So I press the arrow at the bottom. It takes a very long time. Now try to jump back to slide 200. Same again - the pulldown list isn't centred on where you currently are.

Ideas to address issue 1 (best to do all of these):
    1. See solution to issue 2 below, that would help hugely - perhaps the best answer.
    2. Allow PgUp and PgDn keys to make the pulldown list jump up or down by say 25 pictures.
    3. Allow PgUp and PgDn keys during the slideshow to jump say 25 pictures back or forward.
    4. Make the pulldown list go across to fill multiple columns across the whole screen.
    5. Make the Jump pulldown list put the current photo halfway down the list, so you can easily jump about 20 pictures backward or forward.

Issue 2. Can't start/restart a slide show in the middle. You should be able to select a thumbnail, press Ctrl+S, and have it start the slideshow and instantly jump to the picture that is selected. And if you exit a slideshow, it could exit with the current thumbnail picture selected. In fact this would also provide a useful solution of a sort to issue 1 above.

Issue 3. During the slideshow the Down key should do the same as the Right key, and the Up key should do the same as the Left key. At the moment they do nothing.

Issue 4. Are there keyboard equivalents to Pause, Play, Jump, etc - i.e. all the buttons at the top? I can't find them. If not there should be.

I do hope you find these suggestions helpful. I'm sure many people would like a really good slideshow program.

I absoulutely support the issue #2. It would also help to get around the problem of finding the right picture mentioned in the issue #1. To start the show from the currently selected picture sounds like the most natural option. It could appear as another option in the File Selection of Slide Show Properties

What I'm missing the most is an option to save a slide show as a simple, text based list of files to be shown. The advanced options to prepare the show as .exe, .scr, or .swf are nice but when I'm presenting my pictures from my own computer I don't want to have them duplicated in another huge file.

    media on subfolders????

hmmm slide show... </forums.acdsystems.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" /> it really doesn't works the way it should be.

I mostly dislike when I want to view all pictures in a folder and subfolders and it doesn't show nothing or only the first folder contents ¬¬

    i.e. in this folder tree:

    2007

    __ 01
    __ 02
    __ 03

If I click the folder "2007" in the tree panel... then click the slideshow button.. a message box pops up:

"slide show can not start, at least two images are required"

but I DO have images in the subfolders, and the slide show is configured to show "all media in current folder and subfolders".

If I have images on "2007" folder, then the slideshow shows ONLY those images, NOT the subfolders content.

    So, this feature is useless for me </forums.acdsystems.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Odd, because I do that and it works for me.

In fact I have a first level folder that contains only folders, and those folders contain only folders, and those folders contain pictures. And it works.
(I have to do this to keep the pictures in the right order in the slide show, when selecting only part of the show by selecting a group of second level folders)

I have seen the message you describe though, perhaps when there were no pictures at all?

    Well I've got it!

I had to mark "show folders" in filters setting... Now ACDSee "see" the folders and shows the images in subfolders </forums.acdsystems.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
