Requesting a 'Clone Original' option

If this is already in there and I haven't found it yet, please tell me how to do it.

Here's my idea. Let's say I have an image and I want to play around with it. ACDSee saves a copy to the [Original] folder and I play with the copy in \whatever. After I finish with it, I decide that, hey, my original image would look good in B&W. I don't want to change what I've done already; I want to start from my original image. I take the 'Clone Original' option and it makes a copy of the image in the [Original] folder in my \whatever folder with a different name. Maybe add a (2). When I start playing with this, I won't need another copy in the [Original] folder because I already have one. I just convert this copy of the original to B&W. Now I have an original copy in [Original] and two altered copies in \whatever with slightly different names.

    What does everyone think?

Sounds like a GREAT idea. I could have used that several times.

  • I too would like to be able to have multiple "Developed" versions without having to copy the Original, as I currently have to.

What would also be good would be the ability to "chain" Developed versions together, so that you could have, for example, a Developed colour version ("A"), and a B&W version ("B") based on "A" rather than on the Original. For this to work as I envisage it, amending the development of version "A" would also effect version "B", which in this example would simply automatically convert "A" to B&W.

Of course, I'd still like the option for the versions to be independent, but perhaps what might be more generally useful would be to have an intermediate version that reflected all the operations I want applied to both (or all) my final versions (perhaps, rotation to straighten or WB correction). IMO, that really would be good.

I can dream; but I just won't hold my breath.

I agree, this would be great on occasion, althoug I don't do that sort of thing often.  Just curious, though - has anyone tried experimenting with using Windows shortcuts to get ACDSee to do this for you?
