rename operation aborts

I tried renaming a largish batch of files last night (about 150). The progress indicator showed it moving long quickly as expected, but long before it reached the end, the dialog disappeared, and I was back in the browser with all files still having their original names. I tried several times and got the same results.

Eventually it hit me that it was still generating RAW previews in the background (apparently this now happens automatically on import, which I think I might like, but I wish there were an option), and I recalled a bug where metadata entry would be aborted by the completion of a RAW preview. So I stopped the preview generation, retried the rename, and it worked.

    Marc,

The same thing happens to me in 2.0 (Batch Rename aborts) except that it gnerates an error message instead of just throwing me back to the browser. So I don't think that's anything new with 2.5.

Ah. Thanks for the info. I wasn't using the batch rename facility in 2.0 because I was using a third-party import facility that renamed for me. But with 2.5, the new import facility in ACDSee is not bad, so I'm using it - except that it still doesn't rename the way I want.

Another annoyance with the rename facility: I am using both the template & search/replace tabs. I have the option on the advanced tab set to remember my settings. This seems to work for the search/replace tab, but not the template tab. My last-used template is available via the drop down, but I have to select it - by default, I just get something pretty generic. I have this notion that this was also a problem reported with 2.0 - yes?

My workaround for now is going to be kind of silly - I'll do the template part of the renaming as part of the import, because that much *can* be done then. And I'll do the search & replace part afterwards, because that much has to be done then, and by offloading the template part to the import, I avoid the bug of my template settings not being saved.
