Regular crashes with german version of ACDSee Pro

    Hi,

since using the german version of ACDSee Pro I get regularly crashes with abnormal program termination. It happens when ACDSee tries to create the thumbnails.

I already tried to totally clear the database with the database wizard (remove all thumbnails and reorganzize database). Afterwards I am able to restart, but it doesn't take long till I again happen to have this problem.

This problem only occurs in the german ACDSee Pro Version - ACDSee 8.0 german and ACDSee Pro 8.0 Eval. english still work as usual with the same picture folders.

This problem is very anoying since if it happens to crash in one folder with restarts it crashes again just after restarting, as I configured ACDSee to open the last used folder...

The error message I get is:

As long as this problem exists ACDSee Pro German is no use for me - it IS NOT USABLE...

    Any hints?

    Regards,
    Martin!

You might have a bad image in that folder. You could try removing images from that folder until it stops crashing. If that's what the problem is, and you can isolate the bad file we would appreciate it if you could send us the file so we can fix the crash.

I finally fixed the problem: There wasn't any bad file. I uninstalled the software again and also deleted the folder unter documents and settings/UserID/local settings/application data -> THERE seems to be the catalog in the new Pro edition (and no more unter .../UserID/application data/...). [I don't know the exact english folder names]

Since reinstalling again it seems that the problems have gone.

And so I think that the german edition is not fully compatible with the english edition in terms of the database.

    Regards,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
I think you are right. After trial the English "pro" version I tried to switch to the German version.
I got the Error message "ACDSee ist auf einen Betriebsfehler gestoßen und wird jetzt beendet."
After many trials I take the same way as you, but It is not realy firm.
To fixe the problem, I Installed the English-Version, optimized the data base and I took an Export without the thumbnails. And then finally I tried to install the German Version after deleting all entries you are descriebed. Took an Import and It is running!

    Hi all,

I'm having the same problem with the Italian version of ACDsee Pro.
I have installed the trial of the english version and it works well.
Installing the Italian trial version every time I try to open the program I get the message "ACDsee ha eseguito una operzione non valida e verra chiuso" and I have to close the program.
Back to the English version and it works like a charm.
Probably a problem suffered by the non English versions.
Hope ACD developers will fix it soon.

    - klicken Sie 'Extras - Ordneroptionen'
    - wählen Sie das Register 'Ansicht'
    - im Bereich 'Erweiterte Einstellungen:' suchen Sie den Eintrag 'Versteckte Dateien und Ordner'
    - wählen Sie die Option 'Alle Dateien und Ordner anzeigen'
    - klicken Sie 'Übernehmen - OK')

    Hi schwarmt,
Thank you for reporting this defect to us. I have logged it into our defect tracking system. There are two temporary workarounds to this issue.

Workaround #1: (Use this workaround if you don't have any DB info you wish to retain.)
Delete existing English ACDSee Pro DB and let German/Italian/French ACDSee Pro regenerate DB of its own language edition.

Workaround #2: (Use this workaround if you have valuable DB information you would like to retain.)
Export English Pro DB to a text file, delete existing English Pro DB, and then import the DB text file in German/Italian/French ACDSee Pro.

    Thanks,
    Tony

    Hallo,

    <ol type='1'>

    Holgi

No, it is not usable in German. As far as I can see it is a bug which exists in all versions of this programm. Never found out what the firm makes of it.

    Hi,

I have encountered the same Problem but with a Difference: The Software crashes only when I open some specific Folders.

I have been using ACDSee 8.1 German for a while now (Upgrade from Version 7). There has been no Problem and I have not had any Trial Version installed before - just the Full Versions 7 and then 8. I have Folders up to 1,5 GB filled with hundreds of Images - no Problem - no crash.

Since I am using my new Camera "Olympus E-500" the Software crashes whenever I open a Folder with Images from this Camera. There are JPEG Images only but their Size is about 4 - 6 MB each. Could this be the Problem? I don't think so because I have Images in the other Folders which are bigger. The same Problem happens with the Software on both my PC and my Notebook: the same Folders, the same Files, the same Error.

I have uninstalled the whole thing and reinstalled it, I have deleted the Database folders ... did not help.

I have tried to split the folders: 20 Images - no Problem ... 35 Images - Crash! ... ??? Should I split one Folder into 20? That's no Solution.

So what can I do now - the Software is not useable for me anymore but I really like it :-(
    Hope someone can help me,
    regards,
    HannesP

ACDSee 8.1 cannot handle many images in 1 folder.

When resizing it crashes with an "The instruction at '0x7c168f1d' referenced memory at '0x0000001c'. The memory could not be 'read' - error.

Bad luck, you have to go back to 8.0...

There are a number of other issues with 8.1 and everyone is desparately waiting for an update
    with corrections.

    Timebeing better stick to 8.0

I have the English version of ACDSee 9.0 (build 55) with latest update.

I also get the problem you describe, and it happens in a strange way... At first I open a folder, and start batch rotating... after rotating a hanful of images it gives the error message and shuts down. The next time I open the same folder it will only display the thumbnails for a few seconds before i crashes.

I've seen some theories of what causes the problem, and in my case it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the size or amount of files in the folder or which security system I'm running (Norton Internet Security in my case). The errors also occur on recently added photos where I haven't made any Category entries.

However, The errors only occur with SOME pictures taken on my Olympus my-500 using 512MB xD-cards . I have never had problems with Olympus C-70 (512xD) or Canon EOS 300D, 350D or 400D (all using Compact Flash-cards in varying speeds and sizes). I have shot several thousand pictures with each camera.

I wonder howcome only some pictures and not all are affected.

So, ACD corporation, pretty please - with sugar on top - get on this, because I have suffered this all the way back from Power Pack 5.0
