Expanding on the last item in my last post:

Most of my photos are handheld and tend to be slightly tilted, never needing more than about 5 degrees’ rotation.

Unfortunately, there’s a big gap in fine control of the Rotate tool, between the slider and the up/down arrows. When I’ve zoomed in on the detail that shows me how to rotate the image, a little drag on the slider tends to spin the image faster than screen redraw can keep up, so that I overshoot. The up/down arrows, on the other hand, take an awful lot of clicking to get much of anywhere: I’ve worn out two mice in the past few years. It’s also possible to hold down the arrow button and wait, but then the slow spinning suddenly speeds up, guaranteeing a substantial overshoot. These features just need a bit of intelligent refinement: lengthen the slider for finer control (or include a scale switch so the slider can be just 10 degrees long instead of 90), eliminate the speed-up with the up/down arrows.

Another issue with rotating while zoomed: that detail may be far into a corner, and after rotation it’s off-screen and can’t be dragged or scrolled back; I can get to it only by zooming out. The module responsible for screen display after zooming seems to be unaware that the geometric extent of the image has increased.
