Rapid reply requested: Can I have 2 ACD photo mgr 10 folder views open?

    Hello, all.

Ive been using ACDSee v3.1 for many, many fruitful years. It was money very well spent.

Just yesterday, I bought ACDSee 10 and other bundled apps for what I consider to be a more than fair price for its value, so I'm quite happy. But the main, number one feature I'd hoped to find in the huge jump from v3 to v10 does not appear to be present!

So this is a technical request for ideas on how I can have two photo manager 10 folder browsers open simultaneously (in full mode, rather than quick mode). I want to be able to have two (or more, but two's enough) different folders simultaneously open so that I can switch back and forth immediately.

I would think this would be easy, as many applications can run more than one simultaneous window at at time. But I can find no indication that this ability is present. Have I missed something? Can v10 do this?

Please let me know if you have any ideas.

If at all possible, I'd greatly appreciate a quick reply, because I have an urgent task for which I need this capability. I'm pretty sure I know a complicated, brute force solution, but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible.

Aside: If I am forced to go through with my complex, brute force solution and it works, would anyone be interested in learning how I did it?

    Thank you all!

You can, of course, have 2 instances of the application open at the same time, showing separate files or folders but not quite sure what you are trying to achieve.

If what you are asking for is different from File->New->Window, it isn't clear how. You can only open new windows this way from the browser, not the viewer, but once you have the new window open, you can have either or both as viewers, browsers, or whatever you like.

And of course, as Sam mentions, you can also simply open the application twice. I'm not convinced this actually does anything different form opening a new window from within ACDSee - either way, the Windows Task Manager shows only one process running.

BTW, there are *some* limitations you have to live with when opening multiple windows simultaneous - the different windows apparently lock the database so there are things you can't do with one window until the other has finished what it is doing, and there are some thing (like backup) you can't do at all with multiple windows open. So it is indeed *possible* that whatever it is you are looking to do, this won't help. Can you be more specific about your needs, whether File->New->Window is sufficient, and if not, why not?
