    Can anyone explain to me how this is supposed to work?

    I set a source point, and when I go to clone sometime I see two crosshairs, source and target, but have no indication of the "nib" size, or I see a target circle but have no source indicator. I'd like to have a circle to show me where I'm cloning to AND some indication of where I'm cloning from.

    If I start with the crosshairs and increase the nib size the target crosshairs become a circle, but reducing the size doesn't return me to the crosshairs.

    I hope I'm missing something, because otherwise this tool seems unusable.

    You see crosshairs only if the nib size is too small to see well.  The nib is actually the small circle at center of the crosshairs.  When you make the nib large enough, the coss hairs go away, as they aren't needed.

    The indication of where you are cloning from appears when you start applying the clone - ie, after you click and start dragging.  Then you'll see a very small set of cross-hairs to show the source area.

    This is the same as in previous versions as far as I can tell.

    Thanks Marc,

    I never used the tool in previous versions, but was just wondering how much editing I'd be willing to do in Pro3, as interchanging images between applications isn't ideal.

    What I see is that when I first start the program I have cross hairs regardless of the size. If I adjust the size that changes to a circle above about 8 pixels (at 100% view, or 4 pixels at 200%, so perhaps the general formula is =800/view%).

    When I start to clone, as you say the source indicator appears (I have to actually move the mouse, in Elements just holding the mouse button down is enough). But as soon as I start to clone the target indicator goes back to crosshairs, and I have to judge the width from what I've just cloned.

    On this showing, perhaps I'll be going back to using the familiar Photoshop Elements system (where I can also toggle between a circle or crosshairs at will), but I'll try it on a few images and compare the results.
