problem importing from scanner

(4 posts)
  • I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit, with an HP Laserjet 3055 and Photi Manager 2009.  I have been using 2009 for a while, with Vista Home Premium and the same printer.  The printer has a flatbed scanner and a document feeder scanner.

The systemall worked fine when I was using Home Premium..  The printer showed up twice in the Import/scanner Twain/Source device.  Once as WIA- and once without the WIA.

If I used the WIA device, PM2009 crashed, but, if I used the one without the WIA- heading, it worked fine.  But, now, I only get the WIA-HP laserjet 3055 scanner listing, and not the one without the WIA

So, the program goes through the motions, then says no image, and crashes.  I have to bring up Task Manager to shut it all down.

System all works fine if I use Windows Photo Gallery.

I have tried deleting the printer and PM2009, and reinstalling both, but, still have the same problem.

Anyone have any help here.  I do a LOT of scanning

    Thanks

    Joe

  • Problem with this is the drivers from HP.  32 bit package will install the entire set of drivers, including the scanner, but, the 64 bit drivers are only for the printer.  HP does not yet have up a 64 bit driver for the scanner.

WHen installing the package under 32 bit Vista, the scanner works fine on any program other than just Windows Photo Gallery.

When using the 64 bit Vista, Windows will only install the 64 bit printer driver, and HP does not have an entire package for the 3055

Going back to 32 bit windows - although not the option I liked, was the only option if I wanted to continue to use Photo Mangage....  I could have imported using Windows Photo Galery and then shifted over to PM but, that was a pain, and Photo Gallery decides where it will put the imput, which takes more time putting it where you want it with PM

  • It would appear the problem is with the HP drivers, but, I can import from the scanner using Windows Photo Gallery, using the drivers that Windows includes with Vista Ultimate 64.  Why can't Photo Manager??

Have been in touch with Tech Support, and they tell me that there is nothing I can do, with 64 bit, except import with a program that will scan and then just use Photo Manager to work with the images.  Not really a very good solution.

Went back to 32 bit Vista, but, wasn't happy, and have again gone back to 64 bit.  Am importing from Windows Photo Gallery, and using PM to work with images, but, not happy, and, am looking for some other program to use.

Bit of a shame, though, as I have been using ACDSEE since back in the original Shareware days.. good many years...  I have literally tens of thousands of images, many of which I could no longer have information on, as people are dead, or disappeared.

Haven't found a program yet, that can import all this info from PM
