For those who didn't get the newsletter last night, here is the excerpt about Beta 1.1.

As we move forward into the next phase of the Pro for Mac Beta, we're pleased to say forums are going strong with many of your suggestions making their way into the hands of developers. As Beta 1.1 gets ready to go live, many of you are asking, "What's coming up next?" Here's a quick list of the features that are planned for Beta 1.1 based directly on feedback from the ACDSee forums.

"Quick Look" Integration: Preview multiple file formats including images, video, music or audio, documents and spreadsheets in a pop-up window using the OS' Quick Look feature. Plus, you can preview items on a separate monitor and take advantage of third party Quick Look Plug-ins to preview other file types like .abr files.
Mouse Wheel Support: Easily navigate the application using your mouse wheel, including filmstrip and full screen viewing.

Open with External Application: Easily open any item in another application from ACDSee Pro for Mac. This provides extended flexibility for your workflow. It also offers an easy way to edit your images in advance of the implementation of editing features in ACDSee Pro for Mac.

Workflow Improvements: Beta testers provided feedback on their preferences for moving through the application, including moving from Manage to View mode and back, and showing images in full screen. Beta 1.1 plans include new options that allow you to choose how you prefer to navigate through the application.

Improved Status Bar: See image dimensions and longer filenames at a glance, for more visibility of important information.

Manual Refresh: Manually refresh your file list for greater control.

Folders Pane Scanner Progress: Offers improved feedback and performance when ACDSee is scanning a folder, generating thumbnails and retrieving metadata in the Folders pane. Especially helpful when navigating between several large folders!

Thanks Melanie, for the update.   Was struggling with what actually changed with this version of the Beta, as I didn't really see any significant changes.    I think maybe you should change the beta  of the product to 'ACDSEE Photo Browser' for Mac until you actually have some Pro features?

Still no mention of image management. Is that coming or not?

Love the speed vs iPhoto!   I have a very old version on the PC that had one feature that I really loved comparing for duplicates - will that be included in the product at release?

I have been using ACDSee on the PC since the earliest versions, and am a great fan of the software.  It has grown from a basic photo viewer (the early years) into an easy to use yet very powerful photo management system.  Now that I am switching from PC to Mac, I was very excited to see a Mac version of ACDSee Pro in development.

That said, I am confused by this beta.  Why are you starting over from scratch?   You already have a fantastic product on the PC.  If you want feedback telling you what features to put in the Mac version, I would point you to your own PC product features page.  If you offered a Mac version that completely mirrored the PC product functionality, I would purchase it in a heartbeat.

Surely the process of porting a PC product codebase to the Mac platform is not an unheard of engineering procedure?

Used ACDSee Photo Manager some time on PC, and have to say not other software comes close to the speed of ACDSee.  I am really happy to see A Mac version of ACDSee.  Hopefully the Manager will come our way as well.

Honestly, I can do without all the photo editing - I have dedicated tools that do those jobs quite well.  I simply need a fast cataloging system so I can track my images, sales, licensing, etc...

This is looking like a GREAT proof of concept.  I don't know if I'd call it Beta as it does not appear to be feature complete. But I am really looking forward to seeing ACDSee on the Mac.

Although I really need a Manager style tool. Hopefully that is in the works so I can get back to ACDSee.  (The Manager v2.5 on the PC was a complete disaster but allowed me to move to Mac as it was the only PC software I needed and kept me from moving over.  Hopefully the Mac team can straighten out development and testing issues so pervasive with the Manager 2.5 software.)

Lightroom is very slow and constrictive. I look forward to a Mac version of ACDSee Pro Photo Manager for the Mac some day.

I have used ACDSee for years, now on version ACDSEE Pro 2.5 on PC, but have to boot up on Boot Camp to use it every time which is a nuisance.  As to the feature set mac users desire, Please just replicate the identical program that you have on the PC, it is as near perfect as makes no difference, and I love it. I especially love the basic editing that allows me to clean up, crop, rotate and basically enhance images for very quick results without having to import the image into another program. I can take a picture if a dreary golf course in the rain, and using Light Equaliser make it look as if the sun is shining brightly on the greens, and enhance the storm clouds in the distance, and use cloning tool to remove the raindrops on the lens all in less than a minute.

Couldn't agree more have used  from version 5 to Pro 2.5 & now current Beta, and was overjoyed to hear there was going to be a Mac version, but missing lots of the PC features is not good.

A Mac version with all the PC features would be my ideal and would willing buy copies.

One suggestion make finding the Mac version a lot easier on your web site, I looked when got Macbook in March and again when this iMac arrived last week, but couldn't find, but it showed on Google search thank god.

Look forward to the undates and the final version

I ditto the other comments.  Having used ACDSee on the PC I expected to see more actual photo EDITING features on this second beta.  I guess patience is a virtue.  Anxious to see when something more than a very good (and it is) viewer is created.

Very glad to get v1.1, and delighted to have the mouse wheel working now. However it is the EDITING features I look forward to most - simple cropping, re-sizing, red-eye removal, the very easy method of incremental image rotation, removing pincushion/barrel distortion, as well as the great range of brightness/exposure/colour/levels tweaking all available in the PC version. I just can't wait....

Having used ACDsee for years and being pretty happy with an almost crashless 2.5, I am totally frustrated waiting for a Mac version of an already proven program with a good workflow. What seems to be the holdup? Without the editing tools, it really is weak, and I will have to keep PCing it (Shudder ;~)

Please know, there are many of us who want this to work pronto!

And please, keep your nose to the grind stone . . .

Still not using the Mac version much as it's so limited, just hoping you have a fully featured version before winter arrives .. and I can finally ditch my PC.

I competely quoted the message up

i just upgrade fiew days ago the beta for mac but this make a very long time to show pictures. I have my picts databank in an external HD, but i'm unable to view pictures now because the waiting circle roll over and nothing appair. now I will try to reinstall the mac version and try again to use.

The best feature for me in a PC version is the fast and complete procedure to put in my flickr album my resides shots. fortunally parallel help me to continue to use ACDSEE pro for pc :O)

I have to agree that you just need to take the PC version and make it work on a Mac.  You have a great product and there doesn't need to be different features just because it is on a Mac.
