PicaView - cool tool but where to get?

    Hi,

     

    Is there any legitimate way of obtaining PicaView? I've seen that it is no more being developed, which is a shame. This is something I continuously used for years (v 1.3 :-) and now I want my own copy but it's not in the online shop. Or maybe there is a replacement or an interesting alternative out there?

    Ok, I will reply to myself then.

     

    I've found a sort of a substitute. It's called FirmTools ShellExtension and comes for free:

    But it only gives a preview in the context menu, and when you click on that preview it opens a default viewer. But if you install a lightweight and quick IrfanView:

    http://www.irfanview.com/

    then together they make for a substitute of PicaView. It's not PicaView but the first impression is good...

    A quick Google and I found PicaView 2.0

    I've never used it (in fact don't even know what it is), but there are download sites offering 2.0 as shareware for $29.

    Another option could be XNView. There's a plugin available, which enhances the context menu in Windows Explorer with a thumbnail preview. Here you can see it in live action:
