Photo Editor 2008 will not save a files as .JPG

I just bought PhotoManager 2009 and Photo Editor 2008 together and installed. Running in Win7 Enterprise 64bit.  I've used ACDSee for many years and most works as expected, but when I open a image, usually a .JPG image in Photo Editor 2008, either straight from the Windows file manager or from within ACDsee PhotoManager 2009, I can do all my edits etc, but PE '08 refuses to save it back as a .JPG, either as a "Save" or "Save As" to a different name JPG, always pops up a dialog that says "INFO: File is corrupted" and won't save. This happens with ANY image I open in PE and try to save as JPG. It save them just fine as PNG, APD, BMP, etc, all the other formats are fine, but if I try JPG, FAIL!  What is going wrong?   PhotoManager 2009 has no trouble saving as a JPG, but can't do the editing I need.

I have thousands of JPG files and I want to edit and save back to JPG so I really need this function!

I got a reply via email but it doesn't show here for some reason. Anyway I haven't done any editing so far that would create objects (layers etc) and all the other bitmap formats save correctly. JPG is the only one that causes trouble. When I try to save to JPG (from an opened JPG) it gives the usual warning that saving in other than native format (APD) you can lose formatting (objects/layers)  i.e. it flattens the image, and then offers 32 or 8bit  color depth and % compression, then it says "File corrupted", every time.

Right now from PhotoEditor 2008 I have to save edited JPG files off to PNG, then open up that PNG image in PhotoManager 2009 and save as JPG, how ridiculous. PhotoEditor also doesn't seem to release the  image in process and if I close PhotoEditor and try to reopen it on the same image, is says "file in use" but it's not. Seems like a serious flaw in the program, perhaps working under Win7.

I use ACDsee PhotoEditor 4.0 at work and it has no trouble at all with saving to JPG and as I said earlier PhotoManager 2009 also has no trouble saving to JPG. Just PhotoEditor 2008 seems to be flawed in this regard. Sure wish ACDsee Tech support would weigh in on this. Maybe this forum is not the right way to get to them?  Used to be you could call them for tech support and get a friendy helpful person, but now that option seems to be gone.

  • Hi Clifb

I have recently got a new WIN-7 PC and now hit the exact same problem you have encountered few months ago.  I filled a ticket w ACDSee but havent heard back yet.   Did you manage to resolve the Saving as JPG problem? How?

    Thanks for you help. Zohar
