Great info Chip, but what about those who are looking to purchase the license for an older product that ACDsee refuses to support - to the point where I was told flat-out "It's not listed on my computer here, so we can't sell it to you."
I have ver. 2.44 of ACDsee Classic, which is a full trialware. I downloaded it while looking for a second copy of a slighly older version for my laptop. That older version was shareware, or 'nagware' as some people would call it.
In the past, my financial situation kept me from being able to have the spare cash to purchase the license. Now that I have the spare cash to gladly purchase the license, the company now considers my money to be no good.
Everyone I've been in contact with - both by e-mail and phone - has tried to upsell me to 10, which a few of my computer-savey friends have declaired to be 'bloatware'. As well, they've tried to tell me such things like 2.44 is incompatable with current OS - even though 2.44 is working perfectly on WIN XP Home SP3.
I like Classic 2.44 for exactly what I use it for, to view my many pictures on my harddrive. I do not need red-eye reduction, or cropping or any of the other myrid of bells and whistles that would just end up duplicating features that I have in other software on my system. This is akin to many people who have problems with cell phone companies who hawk the latest phone every three months, who don't want the camera or MP3 player or web browser, they just what a phone.
Oh, and there were people who were trying to claim that the phone numbers I contacted were not the company, but rather a clearinghouse. That is pure bunk, as I have a printout of the license order form from my older version of Classic, and the vary numbers I called are indeed listed at the top of this form.
The cost of the license on that order form is $34.95 USD, which I am more than happily willing to pay in order to keep my little program running. So please, tell me how I can do this?
