I am brand new to photo manager and using it for the sole purpose of categorizing/organizing digital scrapbook files. I installed the ACDsee software to my computer's hard drive but I keep all of my digital scrapbooking files on a external hard drive that remains connected to my computer all of the time (to free up space on my C: drive). I am confused about "importing". I can see all of my files from my EHD on the left side in ACDsee in the folder pane. I certainly don't want to import all of those files from my EHD to my computer's hard drive and am afraid importing would move or copy them to my computer. I'm just confused about this import thing and what it actually imports. Can't I just start categorizing/tagging them if I see them in the folder tree on the left? I would appreciate any help...the sooner the better as I am leaving town and want to be able to use it while I'm gone (but won't have internet). Thanks!

Yes, don't worry about import. Import is the ability to get photos off your hardware and onto your computer. But EHDs don't really fall into that hardware category. It was intended for flash cards, cameras, scanners, flash drives, cds. etc.
Just start categorizing the files on the EHD where they reside.
