Multifolder Auto Slide Show follows arbitrary configuration

I thought I had found a neat way to have my RAW images conveniently in the same folder with the fully edited JPGs that I use for display, but not have the RAWs intrude upon showing off the JPGs: just give all the RAWs File Property Hidden and then set View>Filter by>Advanced Filters>Show hidden files and folders to off. The RAWs are there but invisible unless I need to work on them. And when I run Tools>Auto Slide Show on that folder, only the JPGs are shown.

But, (here’s the problem) when I start the slide show from the parent folder (with Tools>Configure Auto Slide Show>File Selection>[any available choice]) in order to show multiple folders without pause, the RAWs are shown. Also, my sort criterion (Date/time original) is ignored and the images are sorted by filename.

Either of these two issues makes a multi-folder slide show useless to me; it seems that option just isn’t ready for prime time.

Clever. FWIW, I wouldn't recommend doing this - I think it makes more sense to keep them in separate folders - but if I were combining them into the same folder and wanted to keep the distinction for viewing purposes, I'd just flip on Group By->File Type.

Not that this solves your slide show problem - I rarely if ever use that feature, so I don't have much insight into that. But it might give you ideas for other things to try. For instance, you could select all the folders in the Folders pane, then click the JPG Group-By header to select the JPGs in those folders, then start your slide show on the selected files.

But of course, it does seem that the slide show feature should ignore hidden files.

Also, my sort criterion (Date/time original) is ignored and the images are sorted by filename.

Again, it seems you are right - this should probably the work the way you want. But as more food for thought, I'd also recommend naming your files in such a way that sorting by filename *is* sorting by Date/Time Original, so other applications that are not EXIF-aware can also see your files in your usual order. But that might be too big a change to want to implement.

I have not tried this with your exclusions but sort order IS respected by Sort By criterion in Slide Show

To me, the most important single fact about an image is the identity of the subject, followed closely by the original date and time, so those go into the filename in that order. In EXIF-compatible software, I can sort by date and time anyway, but to sort by subject, I have to hand-enter it, and the filename seems the most useful place. The subject may also go into the Caption, along with much more. I guess I don't have much interest in EXIF-blind software.
