Moving photos to a new drive

I bought a new, larger Firewire drive for my photo collection and, in Windows Explorer, moved the photos to the identical folder structure in the new drive, and then in Windows Vista Home Premium Disk Management, assigned the old drive letter to the new drive. I was expecting that ACDSee would recognize the photos and display their database data, based on the path being identical to the old path. But, although ACDSee had no problem going to the correct default location and it's using the database files (on another drive), the data isn't displayed with the photos.
My guess is that it doesn't actually store the letter of the drive in the database but rather the logical drive number as displayed in Disk Managment, which I don't think I can change. Thus, it still expects the photos to be on the old drive. That's a scary thought because while in this case the old drive is still there and I know its number, I can imagine other circumstances in which I wouldn't know or wouldn't know how to recover.
In this instance, I'm guessing I have to move the photos back to the old drive, maybe recover the database files from backup and then move the photos by hand from within ACDSee.
Before I get myself into more trouble, can someone please confirm that that's what I need to do, or offer a better suggestion?
    Thank you.

    From the help file
Change Binding: Changes all location references for the selected orphaned folder to another folder, and retains all database information. The default binding folder is My Pictures.
Go into Database>Database Maintenance where (depending on catalogue size) you may have to wait a few mintues for the bottom right boxes to ungrey (is that a word </forums.acdsystems.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> )
