My old Toshiba, running on XP, died and has been replaced with a Toshiba running on Vista. I was using ACDSee 7 on the XP and this was initially installed on the Vista, but I have now upgraded to ACDSee 9 on the Vista. All information was downloaded from the old Toshiba onto an external hard drive and then installed on the new Toshiba. My photos have lost all captions, notes and categories. I also store photos on a different external hard drive but when accessed through ACDSee 9 the same result - no captions, notes or categories. As you can imagine, I am frantic wondering where all this precious information has gone. Can someone please help?

    A few questions..

    • Has it ever been working on your new pc?
    • When you upgraded to ACDSee 9 did you do a convert of the database?
    • Do you have a copy of ACDSee from old computer?

    Hi Heidi

No, it has never worked on the new pc.

Initially I installed ACDSee 7 on the new pc. When I was trying to find out why the Properties Database data was missing I got a message indicating that ACDSee 7 was no longer supported. That is when I decided to uninstall ACDSee 7 and upgrade to ACDSee 9. I did this via the internet and downloaded the program (the physical program has yet to arrive). I did not do a convert and have just read about it in the ACDSee 7 User Guide.

Yes, I still have the ACDSee 7 program disc.

My computer guy assures me that 100% of the data on the old pc was downloaded.

    Many thanks for your help.

You are going to have to convert that 7 version to version 2009 (?).

Do you have a backup of the ACDSee database from version 7.  I think you can manually unzip this file and then convert.   During conversion you want to choose one of the folders you unzip (look for default)

If there is no backup, then this database resided in your user profile on XP machine.   The database used to reside here on XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\ACD Systems\Catalogs\70    So not sure if you it guy backed up your profile.
