Keywords vanish while typing

I just transfered new images from my cf card to my hdd using pro 2.

Right now I´m about to add keywords to the acd database of images I transfered to my hdd at an earlier stage.

In the thumbnail view I doubleclicked the first picture. In this view I always have the properties pane open so I can add keywords, ratings and so on to my pictures. I did this many times before.

Today I recognized the following. pro 2 is about to generate raw previews for the pictures I just transfered.
I start typing some keywords for the picture I want to start with but after adding some "and while thinking for the next" all keywords I just entered vanish in front of my eyes and I have to retype them.

If I am quick enough to hit enter after entering them they stay. Or I have to divide my typing tries into smaller parts to be able to hit enter to make them stay.

But if I am typing the way it normally should be the keywords field is just cleared after a while.

I don´t remember entering keywords while pro 2 was about to render previews " even though for other images" like in this case".

So I think this is a bug that only appears while pro 2 is busy in the background.

But still this should not happen. Can anybody confirm this behavior?

You know, I seem to recall someone mentioning something about this a while back, but had never experienced it myself. Recently, though, I have had happen to me a couple of times. I hadn't connected this to RAW image preview generation - I kept imagining it was related to where my mouse pointer was or something like that. But a quick test seems to show you are right - this is *exactly* when the problem occurs, and the keywords (or other metadata you are entering) definitely disappear precisely when the RIP is completed (as evidenced by the spinning icon in the status bar disappearing). I think I don't see it often because I normally enter most metadata before doing any RAW processing that would cause previews to be generated.

Wooho, thank you Marc for your quick confirmation. Seems like this was the fastest tracking down of a bug I experienced so far. On the other side since this post is still so small it might not receive the needed attention.
How can we make sure it gets in the list (is there any bugtracking list?)

Talking about the mouse pointer is it not also popssible that the generation of previews has also additional effects on other things like making our cursor jump? maybe this is a thing that need further investigation.

  • I wonder if this explains how I just managed to lose all the keywords I've assigned to 1500 images over the last few weeks. With one click of the mouse, all keywords on all images gone... poof. </forums.acdsystems.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

I had all images selected, because I was clearing the "Tagged" checkbox on them all. Somehow, all the keywords vanished too. Perhaps this background-processing thing just happened at that exact moment, while all the images were selected.

I don't think so. I haven't seen any cases of this problem erasing already entered keywords. It only erases the ones you were entering while the preview was being generated. If there were existing keywords, these are retained. The only thing I know of that would result in clearing keywords already entered is entering the keyword box (perhaps by hitting Ctrl-K), then selecting all keyword (Ctrl-A), then hitting Delete (or any other key, really). Not that it seems likely you'd have done this.

Sorry to hear that this happened. Whether the cause turns out to be a program bug or something you accidentally did wrong, I think the lesson to learn is to make sure you back things up often. Either by backing up the db, or by using Batch Set Information to copy you database keywords to IPTC.

    Hello,

Thank you for the feedback. I reproduced the issue and will report it to development. Only an issue with ACDSee Database info and applies to all fields - Caption, Notes, Keywords, Author. This is not a problem with EXIF and IPTC.

Workaround: Do not add ACDSee Database info while the RIP generation scanner is running, please wait for it to complete.

    Thank you
    Mark

If one wishes to not wait , one can always cancel the background "ripping" of RAWs by right-clicking on the icon of the taskbar and select "cancel all".
