invalid file path on large and long name files

    I'm having a strange problem.

I'm getting an error (attached) about having an invalid file path when trying to open up an image from the browse screen.

The only culprit has been large (40mb range) pano files that have long names...

    i.e. [3] 2008-10-10, pano2 - junction cypress overlook, 12 images, 20081012-038 - 20081012-049 - 14600x4211 - CCUL-Smartblend0000.jpg

This never happened before... and it doesn't do this with all files like this.

Sometimes it breaks the first time I try to open the file after creating the pano... sometimes it works and then breaks after I moved the file into a different folder.

Then, for some reason, it works again after I rename the file... but I can't rename it in ACDSee, I have to open file explorer and rename it there.

    I've got pro 2.5 build 335

In pro 2.0 I had a similar random problem when it wouldn't open a file... but shutting down ACDsee and restarting it usually did the trick.

This time, it doesn't matter if I restart ACDSee or restart the computer... it never changes until I rename the file in file explorer.

So - yes, I have a work-around... but no, I don't want to use it any.

    Suggestions or thoughts?

What is the full path name of these files?  (the full path from the letter of the drive, the folders it is in, and the filename.)   Is it longer than 255 characters?  If it is longer than 255 you most definitely are hitting this error.  ACDSee shows it in multiple ways..  not showing the thumbnail, crash on creating thumbnails, buffer overrun errors, corrupt databases...

path name to the file is ~125 characters...

with file name looking to be 127...

... so, yeah, I'm probably hitting the limit there.

    Thanks.

Yep, and I definitely don't recommend hitting anything >= 255 because you will start getting errors.

    Just rename your folders shorter.

Trying to browse files with total path length about 243 characters makes ACDSee 2009 Home crash without any failure notification. Displaying the same file with other programs e.g. faststone image viewer works well. Trying to display files with path length over 255 charaters logically does not work as well in faststone but at least there is no crash and instead the files with "illegal" path length are marked and you can work with the rest.

Where is exactly the path length limit in ACDSee and why is it not possible to implement it in a more graceful way like continue working or at least shutdown with some information. I mean as ACDSee exists in such a mature version compared to newcomers like faststone.

    answers are appreciated
