    Hello Community,

I´m just back from a trip to the south and gathered a huge amount of new shots.

Right know I´m about to work myself through this pile of pictures by rating them.

When I´m rating pictures I normally double click the first picture in a folder so I have it it fullscreen view and also have the properties pane open so I can see the rating icons.
I use both the arrow keys and mouse wheel to advance the pictures and rate the pictures by selecting the appropriate number for it.

Doing this for many pictures it would be very convenient to just use the arrow keys for navigation and hitting the number keys 1,2,3,4,5,0 to rate the picture.

But hitting numbers instead of using the mouse for selecting a rating is not implemented yet as it seems. But it really should ;-)

  • Personally I'd find that with just the number keys (the default is Ctrl+number) it might be too easy to *accidentally* change the rating.

But if you'd prefer it that way, it's easy to set it up via View menu > Toolbars > Customize > Keyboard

Ah yes that was what I meant...I did not know that the CTRL+# short cuts existed.

    Thank you very much

This is exactly what I've done, and *so far* I haven't gotten myself into trouble accidentally changing ratings for big batches of photos, but I do worry a little. It still seems worth it to me to save the keystroke during this part of my workflow. Luckily, I save the ratings to IPTC when I'm done with a batch, so they'll be recoverable if I screw things up after that.

Ok another interesting point and a next question to be asked.

I remember you told me some time ago but how do you write the ACD DB rating to IPTC in a way so that they can also be recovered the other way around?

  • You can use Batch Set to write ACDSee's "Ratings" to just about any IPTC field, but if you want to be able to read them back again (and most people would) it's important to note that ACDSee only allows its Rating to be "mapped to" (i.e. to be "read" from) a limited number of fields, and "Urgency" is probably the only sensible choice.
