Incomplete Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard functions for navigating around the Properties pane seem to be incomplete.

No doubt only a touch typist would appreciate this (everyone who uses a PC more than casually should learn), but it would save a lot of time and effort.

The Ctrl-Tab key combination, for moving the focus between currently displayed panes, gets the focus from the File List pane to the title bar of the Properties pane, but the keyboard can’t do anything in the title bar – it has to get into the properties fields. I thought Tab should do that, since it cycles through the fields once you’re in one, but no, from outside, it wastefully duplicates the Ctrl-Tab function. Someone thought the Keywords field was paramount: Ctrl-K gets there from the File List, and from there I can Tab back and forth. But I don’t use keywords – how about instead going from the other pane directly to whichever field was last used?.

For a more specialized circumstance: when I have the insertion point in a field of the Properties pane and I’m ready to move on to the next image, I have to click on the next image in the File List pane, then in the field back in the Properties Pane. Meanwhile, the Page Up and Page Down keys seem to be useless while in the Properties Pane. I should be able to use Page Down to move directly to the same field for the next image, keeping my fingers on the keyboard.

Oops - I intended to file this under Suggestions. Can it be moved?

Are you using Build 238? At first Pro 2 lost the ability to PgUp / PgDn between images which previous ADCSee versions had had. I complained about this and it was fixed in Build 238 (at least that's my experience). See the last few comments in this thread: http://forums.acdsystems.com/index.php?showtopic=5706

John, thanks. That takes care of my specialized case.

Please note that it doesn't resolve my broader complaint that the Ctrl-Tab function, for switching between panes, seems to be next to useless. But, when I looked that up, what I really needed at the moment was PgUp / PgDn.

  • I agree that making the use of the Tab key more predictable and useful, and/or having additional keyboard shortcuts (especially user-definable ones) useful would be a very good idea. (I hate having to pick up my mouse just for a single click to activate a different pane or whatever.)

At the moment you can only assign keystokes to items on a menu. I'd like this extended to toolbar items. (E.g. I frequently use the Highlight warning feature in the Viewer, and find it a real pain to have to hit T to display the toolbar, then pick up the mouse to turn the Highlight Warning on, then hit T again to hide the toolbar, only to have to repeat this once I've finished with it.) But I don't see why key-assignment couldn't also be extended to allow activation of panes and/or fields as well.

In http://forums.acdsystems.com/index.php?sho...ic=5911&hl=, I simply asked for full macro recording. I think I took for granted that macros, once recorded, could be assigned to key combinations. And of course, the macro would record mouse clicks as well as keystrokes, enabling us to get past all or most of these oversights.

If anyone has used a macro program to automate Pro2 successfully, please pass on the name of the program/supplier. Some apps have oddities that impede macros from outside sw: modal boxes, weird clicks. I would be interested in having a macro/scripting language I could count on for Pro2.
