I have to agree with the comments about how disappointing the Beta version of ACDsee Pro for the Mac is. This was a long anticipated port over to the Mac of a wonderful product which many of us Mac users became used to while using a Microsoft operating system. To see how limited this Beta version is makes we wonder why you teased us with it. To be able to just see the pictures we have on our hard drives is not even as powerful as IPhoto. This does not give us a valid opportunity to evaluate your product. I think that you dropped the ball on this one. I don't even spend the time loading up the Beta anymore. At first I thought that maybe I just missed something in the installation process or am not figuring something out. This just isn't the case. Is there a reason why you set a final usage date on this Beta version? What's your point?

I think you kind of answered your own question.
It is "lame" because it is a beta...and a version 1.0 beta at that. Betas are never feature complete, and ACDSee took the opportunity to give Mac users a sampling of what was to come.
This just isn't the case. Is there a reason why you set a final usage date on this Beta version? What's your point?
Without an expiry, even giving away a "beta" would effectively be giving away free software...(often not advantageous for a commercial softare company). As in the case with the PC Pro 3 beta, it's effectively a viable application, so $150 retail per download would be lost without the time limted test period.
Hope that helps clarify... :)

Hello Webskee,
While I appreciate your point of view about Pro for Mac, I must point out our Mac team is dedicated to producing the best, full featured application that will provide photographers with a fast, flexible, Mac based workflow platform. Building from the ground up in the Mac OS will help to ensure that, upon release, the product is everything you and your fellow Mac enthusiasts desire.
I welcome your feedback throughout this process but understand if you choose not to participate in the beta or wait until full release to download the free 30-day trial and evaluate it then.

Sorry to disagree with you Melanie, but based on the extremely limited feature set you guys are testing, this would actually be better described as an Alpha drop. Being in the software business myself, I find it actually pretty rare for a company to release a 'Beta' of a product that has so little functionality (assuming your plan is to make it equivalent to the PC product, that is). While I also understand that software development is a difficult and painstaking process, and we really appreciate you delivering at least SOMETHING, it is still quite a disappointment that virtually all the features we love about ACDSEE on Windows are absent from the Mac 'beta'. So, perhaps you should stop calling it a Beta, and fall back to using 'alpha' as the description? That would reduce our expectation level at least.

I would have to say being a Pro 2.5 user (only reason I installed XP on my MacBookPro) in Parallels, that the current Mac beta is minimalist at best. Are you saying we will see many of the features we've come accustomed to in the Windows version? Just "hold our breath"? If so, I'm looking forward to it, but if this feature set is just teaser, that's fine, but there is much lacking in it's current state.
