Open the folders using easy select if necessary and then:

    1.  Sort By and select More

    2.  Expand (+) Exif

    3.  Expand (+) Image

    4.  Select Date/Time Original

    5.  OK

    Sorry but that DOES work!!

Do you have all thumbs from both cameras showing before you do the sort by as shown above.

Why do you think it doesn't work please?

If the time on the camera really are synchronized, then Sam's suggestion should have worked.  It's possible they were off - can you verify by looking at the Exif Date/Time Original on the EXIF pane of the Properties window that they are actually correct?

BTW, the warnign that comes up about XMp files when burning a CD or DVD shouldn't prevent you from completing the operation.  If you don't need the XMP files on the disk, then simply ignore the warning.  If you do, the easiest way I think is to select the *folder* containing the image and burn that, rather than the images themselves.  But if you don't want to burn the whole folder, you could go to Advanced Filters (Ctrl-I or Alt-I, I think) and turn on the display of XMP files, then make sure you select them along with your images when doing the burn.

I use 'group by camera' with 'camera model' as option to do this and then sort by date/time digitized.  Works pretty well for me.
