How to sort creation date for mixed AVI /Jpegs?

I have a large problem, when taking -example-500 pictures, including-example-30 AVI clips, ACDSEE always puts the avi clips at the end of the ( nested) folder(s)after downloading on to PC.

This means when sorting them for DVD production, I have no laternative but to open every single file and start dragging and dropping all over the place--really frustrating!

Is there a way I can sort EXACTLY with TRUE "file creation time"--as when creating/editing for DVD I really need them cued up in the CORRECT order-CONSECUTIVELY, as taken by the camera-- I see if I open properties it shows the date "taken" how can I set that for a default sort order please?

Assuming your camera's clock is set correctly, the date taken is stored in the EXIF information ("date/time original") for the file.  All you need to do is have ACDSee sort by this.  Or sort by database date, and make sure that database date is set on import to be the exif date.  The available options for sorting are the columns you have defined in Details view, so if you don't see options for EXIF date / time original or database date, simply cusotmize your details view to include one of those columns.

Thanks for replying Marc--However it seems this is  long-standing omission with ACDSEE--it is due to the fact that AVI films do NOT have the EXIF data embedded, hance they are normally sorted to the end of any folder with images--I searched on the net and 1000's of people are asking for a solution to this problem, as most modern cameras offer both formats and most people USE both formats too.

Fortunately there IS a FREE program that does exactly that! ( I tested it yesterday and I now have a folder with ALL my AVI's mixed in consecutively with the JPEGS--success at last.) You have options for the renaming routine, and it is a small price to pay to get all those files in EXACT chronological order!

Although WHY the programmers at ACDSEE can't simply add a tiny routine to "build" this faciltiy in as a re nameng option, is totally beyond me-it would enhance the program no end.

For anyone interested the free app ( "Stamp")  is from here;- http://www.klingebiel.com/tempest/index.php4

You are right but not 100% correct - if that makes sense!  The MS specification for avi does not have an exif 'section' (ifd) at all in the file structure and even exiftool, a long-standing favourite with many here, fails to write date/time original.

The value of date time original is actually stored in avi but under a section callled riff.

I have no idea on how difficult it would be to 'create' an exif block in avi but wonder if we are almost at the same global argument against writing to raw files - hopefully ACD staff might comment.
