How do I fix an IO error

  • I am trying to import a .tif file and I keep getting an IO error  "tif failed to open" I even tried to import a pdf and that didn't work. I'm very new to cnavas, help

    You've probably already received advice by email, but if not...

    .tif files often contain extraneous data, depending on the source of the file, hence can be a real pain to open - not just in Canvas.

    I've found that it's safer to "Place" the tif into a Canvas document rather than try to "Open" it. Placing means that the file is translated by Canvas into a simple image and the code that caused the problem usually seems to be ignored.

    So, if you don't have a Canvas file open, open a new file, then use File/Place to plop your tif right on the page.

    Agree with Rod.

    Can you change the format?  ECW files are seemingly less hazardous?

    They are also smaller files.
    Are you talking of Geotiffs?
