Filter issues

If I filter by a given category, then go back to the "Filter By" dropdown, it invariably shows that I am actually filtering by Tagged (although the command *does* work correctly - it is in fact filtering based on the category). I'm guessing this is a bug.

If I have a filter applied while viewing the contents of a folder, the browser will not show me any subfolders. It seems to me I'm usually going to still want to see my folder structure when filtering out images. At least, it seems an option should be provided to control this.

I don't quite understand how keystroke shortcuts for category assignment work in conjunction with filters. I had a keystroke defined to assign and deassign a particular category. I was able to toggle assignment of an image to that category by pressing the keystroke. Then I tried to filter on that category, and then I reset to show all images. Thenceforth, the keystroke that previously assigned and deassigned an image to the category in question was redefined to filter by that category. This remained effect for some time, but at some point, it seems the old behavior of the keystroke came back. I suppose I may have accidentally stumbled on an actual feature, and perhaps the documentation will explain how this works? In any case, I certainly would like to have a reliable way of defining a keystroke to apply filters by category.

All in all, I am finding this a very promising facility, as discussed in the thread on Versioning & Stacking.

Bingo. Sounds like #1 is a known bug, then (sorry I hadn't remembered this). #3 is still a bit mysterious, but I'm continuing to hope that it's a feature (I can indeed see why I might *want* to be able to use a keystroke to filter by category, as long as I understand when the keystroke is going to set category and when it is going to filter!)

  • Marc, I came across #1 (i.e. Filtering showing as Tagged) when trying to do #3 (i.e. apply a Category by assigned keystroke), so I'd guess it's a bug, as I don't see how ADCSee would know when to Assign/Unassign and when to Filter.

Like you, I'd like to be able to Filter by Category using user-assigned keystrokes, but when I tried to assign one, and when I tried Filter by Category itself, no images were show and the Filter drop-down said I'd chosen "Unrated" (which of course I hadn't). When all this is fixed, perhaps the thing to do would be to assign related keystrokes (say X to filter and shift+X to assign, or vice versa).

The reason I suspected otherwise is that the keystroke never did anything except assign/deassign the category, *until* the first time I tried to filter on that category. So I was thinking maybe that was the act that toggled the behavior. But if you never tried filtering and still saw the behavior change, then that can't be right. Anyhow, hopefully, this will all be straightened out soon enough...

  • Marc,

This seems to have been sorted in Beta 2, is that your experience too?

Selecting a category to filter on no longer reports that I am filtering on "Tagged", yes. But selecting a filter still makes my folders disappear, which I find very unfortunate, and it is still the case that at some point after trying to filter on a given category, the keystroke that formerly toggled assignment to that category starts acting as a command to filter on that category.

Spoke too soon again. Over the weekend I kept "losing" images in the browser, but then realised that instead of my user-defined keystroke assigning a category, it was filtering by that category.

So Assigning / Filtering / User-defined keystrokes is still problematic in Beta 2.
