Feature request: View mode / Zoom to 100% with "/" key

(8 posts)
  • Could we have this zoom feature changed so that it zooms into the centre of the image, not the top left corner as it currently does.

This is discussed in this thread:

    http://community.acdsee.com/forums/topic/use-of-key-in-acdsee-25-build-358

    and no doubt elsewhere.

I reported this on a support ticket at the time build 358 was relleased and it was acknowledged as a bug !!

BTW, I too would prefer the center by default, although once they get the lock setting remembered after restart (and I see Tony has said he plans to fix that!), it seems it won't matter what the default is - it will correctly go with wherever you set the lock.  But FWIW, I recall a bunch of people complaining about the center as the default, because they use ACDSee to read comics (?) and always want to start top left.  Can't please everyone - but actually, once the lock is fixed to "stick", I would think that *would* please everyone?

  • Perhaps I'm being a bit slow on the uptake here, but I don't see how Pan Lock helps things. Surely that's so that if I change images at the same zoom level I see the same part of the image as the last one? Useful, yes, but not what I'm talking about.

The scenario I have in mind goes like this:

I view an image full screen, hit "/" to zoom in to 100% and scroll around a bit. Then move on a few images and find another one I want to zoom into. I want to zoom into the centre again, not to the top left corner, nor to the area where I ended up last time on (possibly) a completely different image.

It also just occurs that it would be really nice if I could point the cursor at the point I want to examine, hit a key (whether "/" or not) and zoom to 100% centred on where I pointed. That I would really like! (Yes I can drag, click inside to zoom in, then hit "/", but it's a bit cumbersome.)

Or perhaps we could have a the Navigator set up so that (when selected) it only appears when you zoom in, because I certainly don't want or need it when I'm looking at the entire image.

John - I've used exactly the type of zoom system you describe in another product & it works well; and can be made to suit all preferences

Interesting. I could see this being implemented for the center mouse wheel click.

A section could be added to the customize dialog, that would enable users to select the action for the center mouse wheel click (and scroll).

Peraonally, I'm fine with the current click to full screen and scroll back/forward though images, but if modifier keys were added (like shift+center click) I'm sure I would find all sorts of new uses for the mouse wheel click.

My understanding is that is is supposed to be a one time thing - set the lock, and it keeps coming back to  *the spot you were at when you set the lock", not just whatever you happened to be last looking at.  At least that's how it work for me.  So if you set the lock while centered, from then on all images would start off centered, regardless of how much panning around you did - as long as you don't hit the lock button again.  No?

  • Maybe I'm just being fussy but, as I see it, Pan Lock should work if I'm zoomed in and don't have "Reset Zoom on image change" set. At the moment, setting Pan Lock overrides Reset Zoom, so I have to switch Pan Lock off. Then when I zoom into 100% the next time I want to, I'm back to top left again.

Before it was changed (was it for version 2 or 2.5?) I'm sure it used to work as I'd like it to now: zooming in defaulted to the centre of the image, but if Pan Lock, but not Reset Zoom, was set, on changing images the same part of each image would be shown at the same zoom level.

I'm afraid I'm at a complete loss as to why this set-up was changed. What has been gained that the old set-up didn't allow?
