(posted also in Pro 2 by mistake!)

Hi, I am hoping to move to Pro from Fotostation (due to Fotostation's high price) - and so far so good. Just a couple of issues though, that hopefully is just my lack of understanding of the s/w

    1) If I have a group of folders (ie eg a number of different named weddings under a main heading of 'Weddings') - Id like to add the top folder 'Weddings' to favouritues, but to be able to click a '+' within favourites to see all subfolders - I cant seem to do this, other than adding every subfolder individually?

    2) Fotostation would allow me to set a 'destination' folder up so I could quickly copy files to/from archive to another (or folder) - I can see that the 'batch move' enabled me to copy files and also allows 'recent' folders to be remembered, but can I set a permanent destination/icon for this (so as not to rely on recent in case recent list disappears or I have lots of destinations?)

    3) A long shot...any chance of AVCHD support???

Other than that, I think this s/w is very good, and will be recommending it as a replacement for FS Pro within the company I work for.

From the Folder window, the "*" on the numeric keypad will expand current folder.  Hitting it again will expand *all* the subfolders of the current folder.  Hitting it again will expand *all* the subfolder of those subfolders.  So hitting NUM-* as many times as your hierarchy is deep will do it.  Not ideal, but better than having to open folders individually.

No idea on your other questions.

If AVCHD is important to you then I wouldn't be making that recommendation. Several people have been on this forum for months trying to find out if there's any news within that arena and we've gotten nothing.

AVCHD is still new to us (we are having to use Sony Motion Picture Browser) - but thats still 'work in progress'.

Another issue I have come accross is with Nikon D90 Nefs. To reflect the correct (ie update of edits) preview you have to make a couple of ACDSEE settings (ie read embedded preview/no high pass etc) - however, even with these settings set the AUTO SLIDESHOW still uses the original nef (not edited version) - our 'togs' see this is a definite no-no as they need to demo certain images to people quickly and without having to convert first.

Also, if you 'batch convert' the NEFS (ie to jpeg for email etc), again the amended version is ingored and the original is used - this is a serious issue for our current workflow

Are there other settings for conversion that can actually use the edited raw file?

I take it you mean edits made with software other than ACDSee?  In general, it's not reasonable to expect processing done on a RAW file with one application to be visible to another.  The Nikon software is extremely unusual in that it is able to embed an updated preview in the file, and while it is nice that ACDSee is able to make some limited use of that preview, and while there are some limitations that could be possibly be lessened, the proprietary nature of RAW adjustments is such that itis compeltely impossible for any application to ever be able to have full access to the adjustments made in another program.

Also, if you 'batch convert' the NEFS (ie to jpeg for email etc), again the amended version is ingored and the original is used - this is a serious issue for our current workflow

This is specifically the part that one can never expect to see improved.  RAW processing made by one application will *never* be available to another.  The best you could hoep for is for ACDSee to add an option to extract the embedded preview.  I have no idea what resolution it is or if it would be good enoguh for the job, but there probably are third party utilities that can extract that embedded preview, and you could install them as external editors in ACDSee so they'd be accessible in just a couple of clicks.

Thanks for reply. However, both Fotostation Pro and IDImager do seem to be able to successfully process both slideshow and NEF to JPEG conversion (in my testing so far)

So, whereas I understand the issues with different apps, I am presuming that other applications writers have found a way to do this.

Unfortunately Fotostation costs are high (and yearly maintenance required for update) and IDimage is less than friendly in its interface (imo)

Do you think ACDSEE will every have the above functionality (hower its done!)

I suspect they are simply extracting the embedded JPEG preview.  Actually *reproducing* the RAW processing of another application is impossible, but extracting the preview inserted into the file by another application is certainly possible, and pretty easy.  ACDSee does this too when viewing the file, but it is does not have an option to use that embedded preview for other purposes.  Not sure if that will be added, but it wouldn't hurt to submit a support ticket (click the Support link at top left of this page) and specifically ask for the ability to use the embedded preview for the operations you'd like to use it for (slideshow, email, etc).
