EXIF and all Metadata missing in ACDSee, database info OK

I moved the contents of My Pictures to a new drive because my old drive was going bad. I did this 'outside' of ACDSee (unfortunately!~)

I opened the photos folder on the new drive and cataloged the folder in ACDSee. The db info is there, but no EXIF or IPTC data shows in properties. I've done optimize db, and that got rid of duplicate files showing up in the thumbnails, but I don't know how to get my data to show up again.

I thought I could do the Embed Database Information and solve my problem, but it is grayed out.

I still have the Default Catalog copy saved (before I moved the photos), if I need to go back to that. I also still have the photos on the old drive although that drive is kind of unstable.

    Thanks for any help.

Have you tried "database>Rebuild Thumbnails and Metadata"?

That usually does the tirck for me when that info is missing. Select a few images first and try it before running it on all of them to see if that's the ticket.

Yes, I did try that - but that option is also grayed out.  I've put my old drive back in to see if all data is intact using the old disk. If so, I might have to 'move' the photos again, but inside ACDSee.

I don't have access to ACDSee right now, but there is a way in the DB to "Re-Bind or something like that. That basically tells your db where to find the new image. If you kept the exact same folder structure, that might work.

I would contact support or look in the knowledge base before transferring all the images. There is a link in the support drop-down at the top of this page for support.

Under Tools->Options->Database there is an option to import EXIF and IPTC from cataloged files.  Make sure that is checked, although it seems odd to me that it wouldn't at least display the info even with that option turned off.

You are actually browsing to the folder containing these images?  If you double click one, it actually shows it full screen, as opposed to giving you an error suggesting that the thumbnail is not attached to an actual file?

If so, it would seem something's not right.  Have you tried viewing one of the affected images with another application to make sure it does actually have EXIF and IPTC info?

It seems some people had an issue like this when converting a db from 2.0 to 2.5 but it went away after running Catalog, so your situation seems different.

If nothing else, since it seems you've basically started over with a new db (you old db info was all embedded, I take it, or it wouldn't have come back), I'd try *really* starting over with a new db.  Rename your old db - it's location is given in Options also, althoug you need to use Explorer or some other program to actually do the renaming.  Do this while ACDSee is *not* running, then restart ACDSee, which will create a brand new db.  Then repeat the catalog operation.

    Thanks tibu and mark,

I thought there was a way to 'relink' data also, tibu. Maybe that was an older version... Anyway, I built a new empty db and re-cataloged my pics and all is well. I'm so glad I didn't have to 'move' the data again to have ACDSee find it.

Mark, I did have the option to import EXIF and IPTC data when cataloging, so I don't know why it didn't pick it up first time.

    Thanks again for your help.

There is, bt since since your db info came over ok, that's not really the problem here, so it wouldn't have helped.  But for the record, it's Tools->Database->Database Maintenance.

Anyway, I built a new empty db and re-cataloged my pics and all is well.

    Glad to hear it!
