Error installing 2.5 - cannot remove older version

I am trying to install the upgrade to pro version 2.5. As soon as it starts the install process, a message pops up that reads this: Error 1714 The older version of ACDSee Pro 2.5 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group. This message has popped up every time I've tried. I have double checked to make sure the version wasn't updated already - I am still on version 2.0 (build 238) according to the "About Acdsee Pro 2" window. Has anyone else encountered this and what was the fix? I thought about uninstalling version 2 first but read the notes on the 2.5 install file that say you must already have 2.0 installed in order to use the upgrade installer. So, now what??

I removed v2.0 before installing 2.5 with no problems.

I didn't remove 2.0 and the installation procedure of 2.5 also didn't, i.e. I have both versions installed in parallel. The only thing that disappeared were the start menu entries

this prob is from windows installer remainings - use "msicuu2.exe" from microsoft to clean installer remainings from acdsee. then run setup again. i wonder why the developers don't make a post on that problem!

So I tried to uninstall version 2 through add/remove programs in windows. This also failed with the following message: The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.
Well, version 2 is still working for me so I guess I'll bypass the upgrade for now. But, I'd sure like to hear from someone who has a solution for this.

I had seemingly the same problem as pbjayson.

I used the msicuu2.exe utility which identified Pro 2.0 in its list of applications.

I thought the utility was supposed to clean up install files but the interface usggested it would uninstall a selected application.

Having exported my 2.0 database earlier (backup always crashed 2.0 on my system) I let msicuu2.exe do its work on Pro 2.0.

I then did an apparently successful install of 2.5 build 363 but the application failed to run as requested when I clicked finish in the install dialogue.

I checked Task Manager and there was an ACDsee process running in the background.

I restarted my machine and found the Pro 2.5 icon on my desktop. Clicking on this, the application stalled before loading because it couldn't find a 2.5 directory for the database in the documents and settings path. The necessary path had not been created in the install.

Despite the ambiguous intimation from msicuu2.exe that it had removed Pro 2.0 I can still run Pro 2.0.

It tells me it is version 2.0 build 238 but the image files it displays describe themselves as ACDSee Pro 2.5 files.

Hoping for some insights / solutions from ACD See.

The problem is resolved - it was a roundabout process to eliminate 2.0 from my system but 2.5 now runs fine after reinstalling. Also, problem with database back up process crashng the app no longer occurs.
