Different descriptions for the same IPTC field in German version

    Last weekend I visited a friend using ACDsee pro 1.

    Because when spent the whole day organizing with the software and I also managed to have him upgrade to pro 2 I missed sending me the screen shot of the problem I found. But maybe somebody with a German version can look it up for us.

    In the English version caption is caption and it is the same in the ACDsee DB field, IPTC pane, and also in IPTC batch set information.

    In the German version I had the IPTC pane open and also opened IPTC in batch set information. If I remember correctly there are two different descriptions for the first field (which is named caption in the English version)

    Can anybody confirm this? Maybe with a screenshot...

    I just did the screenshots myself:

    In the English version both fields on the left side have the corresponding fields named the same way on the right side. Or you could say all four have the same name "Caption"

    </2548/engloi8.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    In the German version the two fields on the left side have different names (which can be counted as ok) but one of them even has a different name on the right side which is actually not ok because it should read the same.

    </3903/gerba0.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    And while looking at the screenshot there is even more wrong

    Autor on the left side is named Hersteller on the right side which is also wrong.
    Would be the same as author and manufacturer in English.

    I haven't checked for more but there might be some more fields mixed up as well.

    Hello,
    Thanks for the post. I am making some changes to the German GUI based on this post.
    I just want to clarify the following:
    Author = Autor in German.
    Writer and camera manufacturer = hersteller, as hersteller is not used to translate the word author. So the change we will make will be in the properties pane to rectify the misinterpretation.
    Change Hersteller to Autor

    We will be making a change on the Caption tab:
    Change "Beschriftung" to "Objektbeschreibung" to maintain consistency with the properties pane.
    Please let me know if there are other inconsistencies or localization problems in any of our products.

    As IPTC is an official standard, the organization officially released translations in various languages of their IPTC core field descriptions. Maybe it would be a good idea to use the official field description translations as you can find here for IPTC core v1.0:
