Develop mode setttings no longer applied in background?

This was being discussed in another thread that I can't find now, and I don't want this to get lost in the shuffle as I think it deserves serious attention.  It's kind of a showstopper issue for me.

My perception is that one of the *major* improvements going from the original Pro release to Pro 2 was that RAW Processing could be done in the background.  That is, when you moved from one image to another while in RAW Processing, or when you hit Done to return to the browser, it responded pretty quickly, and while it might still be doing some work in the background to generates previews and so forth, you didn't have to sit and wait for it but could start working on the next image or do continue browsing.  This was indeed the improvement that made shooting RAW full time truly feasible for me starting with Pro 2.

It seems to me that with Pro 3 Beta 2, things have reverted to the way they were in the original Pro in this respect.  If I am in Develop mode and make any changes at all to an image, when I go to the next image or hit Done, I have to wait for ACDSee to finish "applying settings" and generate the new preview before I can go on.  Instead of being ready to continue with my work after a second or two, I have to wait maybe 10-20 seconds between images.  That's pretty much unacceptable.  The "Loading" time for the next image is greatly improved from Beta 1, but if I have to wait for the previous image to finish "Applying" before it can even commence loading, that's a huge step backwards.

Since only one or two other people have mentioned this, I'm wondering if it isn't something unique to my system?  Maybe it only affects my particular camera (Pentax K200D)?  Or has something to do with the fact that on my system, Beta 2 magically inherited the database and all other settings from Beta 1, but others found they had to start over?

I was having this problem with the prior Beta release of Pro 3 - and I have it with the current Beta release.  This is one of the symptoms that I have posted regarding slowness in processing images.

Happens to me too, Marc (K100DS). What I dislike also is that when I hit "Done" I'm taken back to View mode, even though there may be other sliders I want to access on the same image in Develop mode. Perhaps this is how it's supposed to be, but it's very inefficient.

I've just realized that's daft! I don't hit "Done" until I've finished with all the sliders. And I've just noticed that "Done" takes me back to whichever last mode I was in before I went to Develop, which is actually quite clever.

Ignore me. It's late and I'm having a senior moment...

Are you sure it was the "applying" of the previous changes that was slow, not the the "loading" of the new image?  Of course, I no longer have beta 1 installed to do a direct comparison, but my impression was that applying the changes to the image you are leaving was fast, but it was the loading of the new image that was slow.  At least, that's what the visual feedback on the screen indicated to me.  And this seemed confirmed in that hitting Done took you back to Manage or View mode relatively quickly, since only an apply but no load is required.  Now, however, it's the other way around - the visual feedback indicates its the load that takes the time, and hitting Done (which requires an apply but not a load) is much slower than I remember it in Beta 1.
