I set my camera to capture an image as both raw and jpg.  ACDSee lets you have them loaded into two seperate directories.  (There appears to be a bug in 3 where it doesn't actually do that and I hope it will be fixed.)

What would be nice is if you could have ACDSee continue to associate the two files such that if you tag, rate, or delete one it will do the same with the other.

In another program, editing a photo does keep a separate file, but in the interface still shows as one. (hovering the picture pops up options what to do, like recover or re-edit or whatever).. This instead of having a second photo in another folder. My guess is this request resembles this behaviour?

It would be nice to have something like that.. I shoot at both JPG and RAW, would love to see them as one, and after editing, the original would be bundled to it as well, giving options what to do.

Reason for having both JPG and raw is to manipulate the raw, but be able to exchange JPG with others as well (like uploading JPG to websites, allowing another PC, not running ACDSee to access non-raw pictures as well..

    Focus Group

Associating, grouping, stacking, and versioning related files are all desirable features found in other DAM programs, and were asked for in ACDSee many times in the past. I do hope something along these lines will eventually seep into ACDSee.

Knowing that these are major features that might require significant development resources (and therefore the chances of seeing any of them added soon are slim unfortunately), I would like to suggest a "minimal development effort" feature which I really think should have been in ACDSee in the first place. It will be useful for many things including the OP's problem (at least as a work around):

I would like to have the ability to copy/paste metadata between files. This will allow the user to (at least manually) sync ratings, tags, etc. between two related files (e.g., a RAW and JPEG imported from the camera). Another very very important scenario this feature will help in is when the user edits an image using an external program. There is currently no easy way to copy metadata to the new file which was created by the external editor, which is a shame - all tags, categories and ratings are still relevant to this new file! This new little feature will make integration of external editors into the ACDSee workflow much much more practical.

Of course, there could me many other uses for copy/paste metadata. For example, adding another bunch of photos from a session and applying all relevant tags and categories (which were already applied to other photos from that session, imported and tagged previously).

See how nice and useful it is to selectively copy Develop settings between files in Develop mode. It would be just as useful to be able to selectively copy metadata in Manage mode!

I think this feature will at least work around many problems with related-files management. Of course, further down the road,  it would be nice to have fancier features, like associating several files (so that their metadata is synchronized automatically), stacking, versioning, and what not.
