Database backup

I just downloaded the Pro beta version just because I was curious to see if the bug from the 2009 version was addressed.  I was going to get upset if it was but it clearly still doesn't work.

The bug is when in Windows Vista 64 (I haven't tried this in XP) the program crashes after getting on the screen where it has the Backup Progress screen then a window comes up that says ACDSee Pro has stopped working.  It happens ever single time and happens on my purchased 2009 version.  I have also seen other people have this issue from other forums here and nothing that is recommended has ever fixed it.

What kind of testing does the product go through?  I can tell you if you get around 20 Gig of photos with 100+ directories you can recreate this issue every single time. Also backing up to CD/DVD is something I forgot to mention.

The product seems to have many good features but until this bug is fixed I think I'll not purchase this upgrade version.  There also appears to be import issues when you have many many photos as of yet I haven't tested this on the beta.

I wonder if it's possible your database is corrupt in some way?  Is this database one you converted from an earlier version?

Any further details on what might be unique about your system would be useful for the folks at ACD to try to reproduce the issue.  Are you including thumbnails in your backup?  Images?

You are not alone in the issue that backup is crashing and you cannot successfully backup.

I would suggest you contact ACDSee tech support and give them your specifics to try track the issue down.

I faced this issue on 2 different computers as I have a new PC and migrated to it.  I had a direct copy of all the files/directories from the other PC of my photos.  I also migrated to a new hard drive so a reinstall of ACDSee was done.  I had conversations with support and they cannot seem to fix the issue also.

This is a database backup with images but no thumbnails.  I'm fairly confident it has something to do with a threshold of some sort with the software.  It happens on every version of the software so far that I have loaded.

Like I said the software has many great features but honestly if they can't fix the backup maybe they need to leave it out as a feature.
