Crash with RAW Processing

I'm not able to do any RAW Processing at all in 2.5. The program pops up the lovely msgbox with the text "ACDSee has encountered a system error and will close now." When hitting OK it shuts down.

The error occurs every time I hit "Done" in the RAW Processing window or if I try to execute some RAW processing from the browser window.

In the RAW Processing window, the picture wan't show up. I can see thumbnails in the thumbnailwindow.

Pictures are shown in the Viewer and thumbs in the browser.

After an error with the RAW Processing, thumbnails are gone in the browser for the affected files - files I tryed to do some RAW processing on. Affected pictures want show in the Viewer either, but if I try, the program will end with the same message as above.
I can revert the RAW process and then the pictures will show in the viewer and the thumbs in the browser. But still not in the RAW Processing window.

I could live with the random crashes in previous versions, but this one makes it impossible to use the software. I really hope some one has a sollution for this problem or I will install Lightroom and give it another shot, so please help me!

    Edit:
I'm using build 332 on Windows XP Pro with SP3.

Best regards and sorry for my bad english,
    Juri Salminen

Could you check memory usage of ACDPro25.exe under the processes tab of Windows Task Manager (CTRL+Alt+Delete) when using raw processor. Have you got enough memory - increase page file?

Total memory usage by Windows is about 400 Mb and I have 2 Gb. Pagefile is 2 Gb. Lot's of space on all drives.

Can you post a specific file somewhere and specific instructions to reproduce the problem?

After an error with the RAW Processing, thumbnails are gone in the browser for the affected files

That could be simply a matter of the previous error having resulted in the fiels being quarantined. Check Database->Quarantine Files.

    Thanks for replying, Marc!

Import the file into ACDSee, select it in the Browser and click RAW Processing. Select Detail tab, change Amount to 100 and click "Done".

I can't see the photo in the RAW-editing Window, neither in Unprocessed or Preview view.

Clicking Done will exit the RAW Processing window and return to the Browser, as normal, but a second or two later the program will crash.

It also seems that all new photos are about 1-1½ step to dark. I first thought it was me who hade made a mistake on the camera, but it's not. Photos imported in pre 2.5 versions shows correctly.

    No files are quarantied.

I downloaded your file and unfortunately (?!), I was unable to reproduce the problem using Pro 2.5 build 332. I was able to the RAW processing you mention, go back in and do more, revert, do it all again, etc, with no crashes at all. And while I don't know what you expect the image to look like, there's no way it could be considered too dark on my system - it's actually slightly overexposed in the highlights, and definitely looks quite light.

So I'm going to guess something is wrong with your installation of 2.5, not with 2.5 itself. Have you tried uninstalling and installing again? You could also try renaming you database and restarting so you get a clean db to see if that has anything to do with it. But most likely, you've have to contact customer support one way or another.

I have uninstalled 2.5, restarted, renamed the ACDSee-folder under Documents and settings, installed 2.5 (333), restarted and still same problem. Photos shows for a second in the RAW Processing window, then it's black. If I do some changes and hit Done, the program will crash.
Photos still to dark and I checked older RAW's and all of them are way to dark.
I then reverted back to older graphic drivers with all the restarts of Windows and the above procedure. Same problem.

I have now reverted back to 2.0 (238) where things works as they should with only random crashes from time to time. That I can live with <<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I hope there will be another upgrade later this year and then I will try again. Untill then, I'll stick with 2.0.

I would *highly* recommend submitting a support ticket. Otherwise, there is no guarantee anyone at ACDSee will know you having this problem, which in turn means there is next to no chance that any future version behave any differently.

    Juri,

It sounds like you might be missing the .xml files that the RAW Plug-in needs in order to process the RAW files.
I know you've reverted to Pro 2.0, but if you decide to give Pro 2.5 a try can you check to make sure there is a folder called 'Raw Defaults'
that contains ~ 200 .xml files, located under:

    C:\Program Files\ACD Systems\ACDSee Pro\2.5\PlugIns
