Copy To Folder (Alt-C)

  • The Copy to Folder function does not work under the Edit tab.  I have a CD in my CD drive and attempting to copy the contents onto my hard drives.  The Copy To Folder selection is darken so I tried Alt-C.  Doesn't work.  Darn.  I'll go have XP do it instead.

Probably because the files are Read Only. ACDSee will not let you edit the files until the read only attribute is removed. The Copy To (Alt+C) does work in Manage mode, but does not remove the RO attribute. This can be done in the Properties Panel, but for single images only, as there is no Batch Set to do this.

  • Yes, I saw that response to someone else's question about read only images.  However, I never had any challenges with it in 2.5.  All I'm doing is taking them off of the CD and putting them on a hard drive.  There are or use to be settings that you can/should be able to set in ACDSee Pro to override the norm.  At least, that is what I did in 2.5.

BTW, as another workaround, instead of Copy to Folder, what about Import?

  • Import?  I'll try that one.

This works well, but the only  trouble is, they are still Read Only, and cannot be edited until the attribute is removed. If only ACDSee had a setting to remove the RO.......

  • I open up Windows Explorer and find the file folder then do a mass change to the setting so that I can R/W those files.  Takes less then a minute.

On a CD or DVD?  I really did not think this possible.

Trying this on W7, (Select a group of images, and right click for properties) it tries, (after getting Admin rights) Windows seems to do it, but as soon as you select one image, the RO is back.

On the other hand, you do this after importing? Like I said, it would be nice, and have ACDSee do it, and not use Explorer.

Sorry, I meant to say you have to copy it first to your hard drive before performing that function.  You can't change it on the CD or DVD because that would mean you would have to 'write' back to it and that is an impossibility for doing while the file is still on that medium.

  • 2.5 would permit you to copy to your hard drive with write protection turned on.  3.0 does not.

Not a big deal, I suppose, since you can import.  Looks like a good alternative.  Instead, you could also use the 'copy to folder' function in Explorer or, if you have other programs like LapLink, you could do it that way as well.

Regardless of which method you use to get your files from a CD/DVD, you still have to use Explorer to change those read/write attributes of the files.

Does clicking the "Read only" box on the Properties / File window not do this?

Yes it does Marc. Never tried a whole folder of images, but thanks.( We learn something new everyday...:-))  ) Selecting all RO thumnails, and selecting Properties, you can change the RO attribute of selected images, after sending to a HD, using the Import command.
