Barrelmaker,
It looks as though your graphics card only supports DirectX 7.0 so it should be runnning the previous version of the slide show. Have you ever installed previous versions of ACDSee on this machine? Did the slide show run?

Ron,
There is a difference between the DirectX version which is installed on your machine and the DirectX version supported by your video card. Because your Video card only supports DirectX 7.0, the Slide Show should run the same as it did in version 2.
I will look into the issue.

I also am getting "ACDSee has encountered a system error and will close now" when I try to launch or configure the slide show. I also am running a Dell Latitude C800 Pentium III 800MHz and 256MB RAM, ATI Mobility 128 AGP 4X (Dell) 32MB RAM, XP Pro SP3 and DirectX 9.0c. I previously had ACDSee Pro 2.0 installed and the slideshow worked fine.

What graphics card are you using? Maybe we can narrow the problem down if everybody with this problem posts his graphics card.
If you type dxdiag in the search dialog of vista right after pressing the start button or run on XP you find all information about your directx software version your graphics card.

Hello Don,
I can't help you with your problem but I can shed some light on: Keeping in mind my previous version ACDsee 2.0 worked fine.
ACD changed the concept for the engine of the slideshow between pro 2.0 and 2.5
I can't exactly tell you why but the old system was based on a very olf directx version that cased the slide show to stutter on some systems with quite new hardware and transitions were also limited.ACD tried to update this to be able to integrate up to date transitions (maybe things like multimonitor support etc.).
Because of this many users with current hardware see changes and a better presentation of the slideshow. It also seems that the new engine causes trouble on..well lets say kind of outdated hardware. In 2009 the tnt2 chip will have his 10th anniversary :P
But still maybe it would be worthwhile to post screenshots of your DXDIAG summary.

how do i post screenshot of dx summary
Hello barrelmaker,
I saw you post below but I need the information from the second tab called display? That is where all the info about your graphics card are stored.
I'm sorry that I couldn't tell you before but dxdiag lets you save a protocol. Please run dxdiag again and look at the buttons at the bottom. One says to save all information.
Please do so and send me the txt file via eMail.
I will send you a PM with my address.
Thank you

Hi,
I posted earlier today about this crashing problem in the thread about the most recent update, before finding this thread.
I have the same problem as the problem described here. Choosing Auto slide show configuration or auto slide show crashes the program.
I ran the Directx diagnostics tool under Windows XP Service pack 2. It tells me I am running Directx 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
My graphics card is an ATI Rage 128 pro AGP 4X TMDS from ATI technologies. It has 16 megs of memory and my dispaly is 1280 x 1024 (32 bits). The main pilot is ati2dvaa.dll version 6.13.0010.5019 dated 2008/04/13.
The card is an old card I've owned for at least 6 or 7 years, but it passes with flying colors all the tests provided with the Directx diagnostics tool.
Thanks for any help,
