    Hi,

I am trying to process some eos5d raw files, and it appears that even at 100% color noise reduction, there is color noise left.
Tried Lightroom on the same image, it completely eliminates color noise at default 25%.

Plus, there is some weird mismatch between jpg and raw images. Image seems shifted few pixels. Its only few pixels, but annoying anyway.

    Thanks.

P.S. It appears not working also in edit mode with jpeg.

    Wrong section, or...
    Wrong product to expect noise reduction to work? <<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

    Thanks.

    Hello rac,

sorry for the late reply. If I remember correctly I have also noticed that moving the sliders sometimes does not show an effect even when pulled to 100%.
But I also recognized that changing the value to 100% and leaving the raw processor will force ACDsee to update the thumnail of the picture in question and in that case you will see a strong effect. I think the same counts for converting the image to jpeg after that.

Please give it a try and tell me if it works for you.

Thanks, but it does not appear to be the case.

The same with jpeg too. Luminance noise reduction works perfectly, but colour noise reduction is hardly noticeable at all. The same if saved, converted, etc.
Are you saying that on your computer it works properly?

    Hello rac,

first of all - are we talking about the same function?

I thought you were using the cllor noise sliders on the "detail" tab of raw processing. Is that correct?

Please remeber that the extend of color noise reduction is a combination of all three sliders here.
If you have pulled noise reduction all the way to 100% but you have amount still on 0% it might truly be possible that nothing or not much happens.
You will also need to play with both of the other sliders.

I just checked out a supertele shot of the moon that I made last week. I had to shoot it with a slight underexposure to still get all textures from the moon right.
This means the sky looks much darker as it was. I see a lot of color noise in this dark area and if I use the tool to reduce it it works quite good I must say.

Please tell me if this helps you out.

OK, I have tried the thing more carefully now.
First, it is clear that ACDsee is not showing the same thing in preview and when exporting the photo. That is, it certainly shows changes, but there is more (and different) noise in the preview than in the resulting exported photo.
So, I would like to find if it is the problem with my setup or bug of ACDsee.

Second thing is, I am not really ready to accept some kind of hybrid noise reduction without simple colour noise reduction alone. That is because colour noise reduction (like in the Lightroom, for example) is something you can apply almost automatically and it will not damage your photo. Things like we find in ACDsee may be good but it still needs to be proven that it is also good as a professional tool. So, if not otherwise, here is the request - please add colour noise reduction which would not touch the luminance detail.

    Thanks.

    Rac,

We are looking into improving our color noise reduction.
