Canvas maps imported into ArcGIS 9.1

    Hello,

I'm currently working on Canvas maps that I would like import into ArcGIS 9.1. But I don't know if I can use the Canvas GIS extension to export data under a .shp format.

When I want to export to .shp file I have a problem with coordinates that I'm not able to define! (Reference point and map extension!?) I'm quite sure that I will be able to manually georeference my canvas map in ArcGIS but I have around 2X200 maps to convert to shape file, I am looking for a quicker way of making.

    Thank you for your answers

    Have a nice day

    Florian

If you have a Projected coordinate system established in Canvas then all shp files will export as per those settings.
Not sure what you mean by 'not able to define'?

Hi and thank yo for your answer.

I have a .CNV file which contains maps and a .prj file with projection. I open CNV file and I load projection in GIS menu. Then I save as .shp and I export toward ArcGIS 9.1. Unfortunately when I display shp files, I have no georeferencement.

So I directly tried to save my CNV file in a shp file and then I loaded the prj file through the GIS menu. But when I tried to re-import into ArcGIS, I have a wrong georeferencement as well.

So my problem is to know if Canvas software is able to convert in a shp format with a right georenferencement that can directly use in ArcGIS.  If it possible can you tell me how to do or can you give me a tutorial link

    Happy new year

sorry Florian, but I think you are using an earlier version than I am (I'm 11) and the extension you mention is 9, or earlier?

Not sure how those earlier versions operate, but I know its dead easy to export the whole Canvas (.CVX) file (drawing, job whatever you want to call your work in progress) as .shp files.  It exports each layer as a separate .shp file.

Not much help to you.  Have you thought of updating?

regards and all the best for 2009
